Pulled it charge it. Reinstalled and can’t get truck to crank. All dash lights come on and I can hear the fuel pump. Can’t remove key unless I disconnect battery. Shifter moves when I apply brake.
Not sure your fuel pump should be running if the ECM hasn’t seen a crank signal.
Is the check engine light on with key on engine off? What’s the security led doing?
The security system will store some ECM codes if it has an issue. There’s about 4 fail codes related to the security code.
I would check out the starter if there’s no codes.
I had one recently that had the code that says new ecu fitted. That one cranked but no start. I think someone programmed that ecu but didn’t rewrite the security code.
How old is the battery ?Try starting the Disco with the headlights on and see if the headlights go dim or go dark. A battery can have full 12.6 volts and low amps keeping it from cranking.
Is the red LED light flashing on the instrument panel when you try to start it?
Thanks everyone. A weak battery may be the problem. I knew the battery was dead so I pulled it and put it on a cheap 12v charger I have. I put the battery in my 90 and drove around for a week as sort of a test that it was holding charge. I don’t know what amps it is holding. The M&S lights are flashing, but that’s it. I was told it might be the xyz switch? I’ve never encountered an xyz switch issue before. I’ll test for amps before I throw a new battery at it.
Flashing M & S lights can be triggered by any of 14 fault conditions. Most often it is low voltage as sensed by the transmission ECU. It's very finicky about voltage. Check, clean and tighten the battery terminals and the grounds. People are way too quick to blame the XYZ switch, in my experience.
