Here is the latest on Magna Donnelly mirror replacement.
A while back we had a real hot day. My '96 Disco was parked out in the pasture under the direct sun. When I went out to it, the windshield had cracked, and the mirror had a horizon line on it.
After searching D-Web on the subject I found no conclusive info on whether or not Donnelly was stil replacing them. Figureing what-the-hell, I tried phoning them on 7/24/2007.
Their voicemail system is totally Byzantine, and almost impossible to actually find anybody or any department let alone an actual person. I left several voice mails in a semi-random way.
The next day, 7/25 I got a voicemail from someone who's name I couldn't identify that said they could help. I got the voicemail it was already after hours, so I decided to call them back the next day.
On 7/26 other things were on my mind so I had forgotten about calling Donnelly. Late that afternoon I got a phone call from Steve (8:30 PM Donnelly time, very impressive).
Steve Chenelo, Quality Assurance, 616-786-7495, took down my particulars an said he would email me a form to fill out and return with some digital pictures of the broken mirror. He also told me that Dani Andriacchi, Office of Technology, 616-786-5115 (direct dial) was the person who normally took care of these returns, but was on vacaction at the time, and he could help me instead.
The next day when I checked my email, there was Steve's email with the attached form. The form requested all the information discussed in previous posts/threads.
I took me another day or so to get the required information;
Pins in back of mirror - None
Number of Pins in plug - 3
# of wires in plug - 3
Color of plug - Black
Color of the wires in plug - White, Black, Gry.
Color of housing - Black
I put the Disco back togeather and emailed the form to Steve along whit several pictures of the mirror ( it helps to have a Macro setting on the camera). I sent that out on the afternoon of 7/28/2007.
On 8/9/2007 I get the following email from Dani (back from vacation?)
"Your replacment mirror is being shipped today. The tracking information will be emailed to you directly from FedEx. It should arrive in 3-5 business days. After you replace your malfunctioning mirror please send it to me by using the replacement mirror's packaging and enclosed return label included with the replacement mirror and drop at any Kinkos or FedEx Ground shipping location.

This morning the replacement mirror was delivered. :bigok: :bigok:
Not too bad, 3-weeks from start to finish. Now comes the hard part, actually replacing the mirror.:ack:
Needless to say, FedEx never sent me a tracking number, but isn't that for the shipper to do?
If you have a leaky mirror, give it a try and call Dani at Donnelly. I'm happy, but your mileage my vary.:seeya:
