Hi everyone .

Im in a bit of situation with reguards to a disco 2 security system.

Here is a little back ground.

Its 1999 disco 2 with a V 8 petrol NAS.It origionally came from the US and is now in Canada.
The lady that owns the disco brought it to me to have some work done on it like tires and servicing.
She presented me with a key well sort of lol.It was a key with a washer welded on to the end of it .There are NO key fobs at all.It looks to me like they broke the key off the fob and welded the washer to it to make it work.

The truck has been running for over a year with just the key and no fobs.I went out the other day and started the truck and hooked up my Super scann II to the diag port to check it for codes because the normal lights were on on the dash (three amegos and check engne).

I cleared the codes and was checking out different systems to see if there were any other problems with the truck.

I did manage to find the EKA (emergency key access code).
Being a dumb ass i dident right it down not knowing the owner dident have it either lol

So where am i ok .

I cleared all the trouble codes and so on and shut the truck off.

I went out the next day to start the truck it started no problem but would not come out of park.
I shut the engine down and got out and locked the door with the key and then un locked it .I opened up the drivers door and the alarm sounded
thud.gif
.

I have tried the usual methods of using the generic 1515 EKA and get no results.

I ordered a brand new key/fob assy from my local Land Rover dealer and a dear cost and it should arrive today some time.

I also tried my scanner again to see if i could get access to the puter the check for the EKA code number .My scanner will not communicate with the puter.I assume this is because the Alarm is in lock down mode.

I also called the stealer and was promptly told they can not give me the code because they have no way of getting it with out plugging in a scanner.well if i cant get it they wont be able to lol.Oh and the stealer is a good 5 hours away.

I have been doing ALOT of reading and iam confused as to how to program the new fob to work with the truck.

Is there anyone out there that can give me the correct procedure for a disco 2 reprograming.

I read that i have 8 secs and need two people .I have also read that all i need to do in install the key into the door lock and hold down on the lock button and lock the truck making sure i hold it in the lock position for at least 3 secs.

I also have a line on a used BeCM with matching Key fobs.Is it possible to take out the security control module and replace it with one with already programmed keyfobs?

I have also tried the leaving the key in ignition and in position 2 un hook battery and rehook up solution .This did not work either lol

Which procedure is correct for my situation.

Anything will help at this point.

I know after im done with this truck ill be having a few

Tony:
Go into the EMS and go through the security learn mode or security synchronization.

I'm not familiar with the DEC machine so I can't help you directly, but you should be able to get it out of alarm mode. I've done it a coupla times using the Rovacom-Lite.

Swapping BCUs is more trouble than it's worth. Synchronizing new ECUs/BCUs is not an easy job and will try your patience.

My DEC scanner is pretty much the same as the rova-com systems.I bought it from Rovers North a cpl of months ago. Before the security system locked up i was able to connect to sll the systems in the disco with no problem.Once the secutity system locked up i can not read or connect to the Becu or the interconnecting unit.I can get into anyother system other than those two.I have a call into DEC as we spesk to see how to get this sorted.By the way not to sound to uneducated lol what di you mean when you said i should look at the EMS?

Thanks for the advise.I just got in and tried again to connect to the Becm And EMS.As soon as the scanner detects the module it shuts down and all the dash lights and so on shut off.I hear the relay clicking off for the dash.As soon as it stopd trying to detect the Becm the dash comes back to life.

Isn't there a way to reset it using the key in the drivers door?
So many turns to the right so many turn to the left......?
There is a 4 digit code number in my owners manual.
Called "Emergency Key Access" EKA on page 18 of my 2001 manual.
Have you tried this?

I have reviewed every manual i can get my hands on including the disco 2 work shops manuel and NOTHING on how it program the new keb fob.And of course to top my day off i tried to get the new key blank cut to match the old hey therefroe i would have a new key with the new fob.No one in my city cane cut a metal key. They can only cut brass. To sum up this wekk it has been well not too productive.Ill try to give Will a call today to see if he can help me out.

So far with all the manuals i have read this week there have been no less than 4 different way to program these stupid key fobs.I guess ill have to try them all and see if there is one that works.

I fully understand now why no one wants to buy something that you cant get fixed unless you are rich and can afford the stealers prices.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Ok im done ranting lol

Tony:
Bear with me as I do not have a DEC and right now, the Rovacom isn't hooked up to a DII (although there are three in the shop today).

In the engine management system, there should be a function for "Security learn mode" or some such. Under BCU, there should be something related to RF memory or RF synchronization.

Somewhere, either in the BCU or Engine ECU manipulation functions, there will be something about matching keys to the vehicle and exiting alarm mode. Tomorrow should allow me some time to hack around a DII, I'll take a look to see what I can find.

While I have deservedly earned my reputation with P38 BeCMs and related circuitry, I need to earn the same with the DII. Give me some time :)

I fully understand what you mean PT.I just got off the phone with Rovers North. They called DEC today and were told i should be able to access all of the Puters even if its in lockdown mode and the alarm is armed. They suspect the Becu went for a crap because i cant not conect to either the Engine management system or the Becu.I can get into the auto tranny and air bag system but nothing else.

I also got a call today from a used breaker and was told a used Becu with matching Key fobs will cost me $600.00.Hell i can buy a new one for about $280.00 so i think ill pass on that offer.

I appreciate everything and all the help.:bigok:

We had one here with the exact same issue...Had to keep messing with the dec to get it to communicate.

Under actuators/special programming...there is a set up called "reset led". We stumbled upon it after about 2hrs of no luck. Truck started after we ran the test..

The guys at Rovers North do not know the system at all...they are simply relaying messages...its a bit easier to go direct to DEC with any issues and they are really in to helping out..and fixing issues.

Well it has been a fun week .

I got the new key fob in from the dealer who is 5.5 hours away.
I took it in to get it cut at my local key cutter and was told they cant cut a steel key.
The next day im off to another city to get the key cut.No probs there and was also told the first key cutter i went to could cut the key they just choses not to because its hard on thier equipment.Oh well its done.

I called DEC(super scann II)in europe.
They did a 3 way conference call with a land rover wizz andhe stated once the alarm has been tripped you cannot scan the Becu because you are locked out .You will need to EKAcode to disamr the truck then you can scann it and then program the new key fob.

Is any of this true .Has anyone else run into this .

Can anyone help me to get the EKA?the dealer and Land Rover have both left me out to swing in the wind.

If i change out the Becu with a new one can it be programed?

I received a little gift this weekend .I had someone send me the Eka code for the disco.I waited for the weather to become nice and headed out with some enthusiam :) .

Before i went out side i made sure i read the "entering the Eka code " procedure several times to make sure i did the process correctly.

The first thing i noticed was there was no Beep of the horn when i held the key for the 5 secs in the unlock position.I tried to enter the code thinking maybe the horn bleep setting wasent hooked up or turned on.I waited the specified 5 mins and for the LED light to go out .Nothing happend.

I retried the process and apon entering the 3rd number the horn beeped once to tell me i was either entering the wrong code or did it incorrectly.

I have now tried entering the code in the opposite direction just incase there was a miss print in the book as to the procedure. All i get at this point is the horn beeping telling me in entering it wrong.

I now wondering if the Becu is shot and needs to be replaced?

Any suggestions hints would really help at this point.

I called my rover parts suplier today to see if the new Bcu was on its way hahahah well someone i know forgot to order it.Anyways i took out the old Bcu today and brought it into the house to have a closer look.I took it apart wanting to see why it was rattling inside the housing.Once apart i noticed this white powery substance on the pc board.Im assuming its corrosion.I also noticed there were alot of scratches on the outside of the box.It looks to me from the shape the box is in the Bcu has been replaced at one point. This may expalin why the EKA code dosent work according to the VIN.The new Bcu should be here by the end of the week and iam hoping to have this truck back on the road soon.

OK new update.

I finally got the new Becu installed today after it finally arrived on friday.
I scanned the truck and had axcess to everything. The first thing i did was locate the EKA code.I scribbled it down in my note book.I checked everything and it all looked in order.I turned the key to see if the truck would start. It did :woo
For about 3 seconds and then quit :thud
I then shut everything down.got out locked the truck up.I unlocked it with the key and opened the door and the alarm went off :doh2
I closed and locked the door and the alarm shut off.I then entered the EKA which i wrote down this time :wh
It worked the truck accpeted it and the alarm disarmed and no LED light was on :up
I then opened the door and inserted the key and tried to start the truck. It started for about 3 secs and then shut down.Hmmmm now whats wrong.
Thinking there is something i forgot to reset and so on i rescanned the puters and there seems to be nothing wrong.

There is one trouble code thats telling me the immobilier code was wrong.I tried to clear the code witht the scanner and it wouldent clear the code hmmmmm

Im thinking there is something else wrong now.
I did axcess the fuelpump relay and the pump works well soooo
if anyone has any suggestions im alll eyes.
Ill be calling superscann tomorrow to also find out why im unable to reprogram key fobs like it says on their web site.

Further up dates to follow
