Discovery II 'Saudi' Front Grille

I had an enquiry from a forum member about the so-called 'Saudi' front drill with the wire mesh etc, and just had a look on Microcat to see what is available.

Such a grille is listed for the Disco 1 and the Disco 2, different part numbers of course, but the price would make your hair stand on end (if you had any that is!)

Standard grille price in the UK is approx $US 165.00
'GCC' (Gulf Countries) spec Grille price is approximately $US 570.00

I have posted pictures from the parts catalogue as below:

http://www.stationary-engine.co.uk/Disco1/Disco1Grille.jpg Part # 2

http://www.stationary-engine.co.uk/Disco2/Disco2Grille.jpg Part # 1

I haven't checked availability, but can do if anyone is interested.

Seems like I saw on here somewhere, where some one made their own "Saudi Grill" and it looked pretty good IIRC, Plus it does not seem like it would be that hard to do if you really wanted to.

I can't see why they have to be that price, although production volumes would make a big difference in this sort of item, the plastic mould (mold) tool would be the major cost.

If I wanted that effect, I'd go for some stainless wire mesh with 1/2" square size, cut the existing grille bars out, add a couple of tubular stiffeners behind and fit the mesh in.

Probably do it for under $US 100.00.

You know?! You could make'em and sell them even faster. I've been looking for one for several years. Even when I go to the Middle East, I look in the junk yards or car breakers as some may call them. But most of the Discos I find have front end collision damage.

I checked last summer and IIRC they were about $180 through Land Rover. They had them in stock in the warehouse so I could have one the next day.

For D1 or D2? I swore that if I ever found some, I was going to buy them all and carry them back. Save two and sell the rest.
I can see it now at airport security. Sir, we have to confiscate these. They may incite a riot on the airplane.

I would take one tomorrow if that were the case.

a free way to improve airflow would be to do what I think was on one of the lucky8 trucks, mark and drill some holes in the grill slats. looks good too imo.

for me, a saudi is a waste because brush bar and lights would block it.

Just checked with Marshalls, the Disco 1 grille is not available any more from the factory, but there is stock at some places.

Disco 2 grille list is £349.00 plus tax, we get it for £307.55 plus tax, so UP's sources are offerering a good discount off the dealer prices.

The Dollar is trading at 1.55 to the Pound this morning.

damn maybe as Jimmy said there are some in a warehouse at a lower cost. Thanks for the part number I will call and see what I can come up with.

considering a door panel had to be sent from the UK for my truck, I am not hopeful

Unfortunately we are flying American Airlines over in August, otherwise we'd have had spare baggage allowance and could have brought one or two over with us, but AA have a 'one checked bag' policy as far as we can make out, so that looks as though it's a non-starter.

Will shout if that changes at all.

2 grilles in one package isn't too big, but you'd have to pay for them first :ack:
