Is there a donut or other gasket that seals them at the flange? I didn't see a part in the RN or AB catalog

I am replacing the exhaust this week, was wondering what the best practice is to seal the exhaust at that flange

mine leaks and pisses from there its so annoying

no gasket, I am about to cut out the sob and put a straight pipe there, we'll deal with dropping the tranny when and if that happens, you dont need to take apart the y pipe to drop the xferbox

had the muffler shop drop a small this bead where the corrosion occurred, cinched it back up feels much better at low rpms..if it doesnt hold then we'll do the chop

I feel your pain Gem. Last time I posted the same thing as above I got flamed to hell and back. I'm with you though. What about a piece of oversized with a couple GOOD clamps? I dunno but there has to be a better way.

Years ago, SWMBO went to the local muffler shop to have the exhaust done on the LWB. Unbeknownst to her, I had a new flange made for her to have the muffler shop guy weld on...

She came back with the whole exhaust system welded from manifold to muffler. Since that time, I have had to cut that pipe during engine removal and transfer case replacement. I'll never weld an exhaust or suggest someone else do so.

On a humorous note, a year or so ago, I had to replace a trans in a DII. When I returned it to the client, it apparently had a little leak where the Y-pipe met the muffler and it dripped condensed water. She called giving me hell for not sealing it better and that her kids were gonna die from the carbon monoxide. One of the mechanics who worked at her father's company looked at it and told her he wouldn't let his wife drive a vehicle with such a horrible exhaust leak. I told her to bring it back and I'd make it right. She brought it back and I tightened it up and made sure it didn't leak from the joint. While I was fixing the leak, I noticed a huge hole in the pipe between the muffler adn the resonator where it had hit the axle.

When she picked it up, I told her I'd fixed what she'd been upset about, but that she should consider replacing the pipe that had the huge hole in it!

Thats what I did on the D1. The flange was rusted to shit so this was the next best way of fixing it.

Done.

Went in quite well. Very easy. Bolts backed right out (most likey due to the exhaust being removed previously by mechanic).

Went with the AB Magnaflow system. Very easy to install, nice clamps. No leaks! They provide a stock tailpipe and a dual tip one. Installed the dual just to be different. Does not have a resonator.

Truck is a hair bit snappier, sounds nice.

Thanks again

I'll try and get some pics. It is raining out at the moment.

One SIGNIFICANT warning!! it destroyed the plastic cover on my my rear step! (ours is a 7 seater w/the rear step) The dual exhaust tip blows right onto the step. I didn't realize it when I installed it. Half of the plastic cover melted off!

So if you put this on a car with the rear step.. use the downturn tip!

Working with Atlantic British on a fix for this. They are working on finding the cover for the step to replace the melted one.

Atlantic british called back and will send me a new tread for the rear step.

After driving about 100 miles today. Got to say it is living up to the billing. Quite a bit faster off the line, a bit more power when you floor it to pass someone. Nice deep exhaust note. Not obnoxious, but certainly louder than stock most likely duew to lack of a resonator.

it is MUCH lighter than the factory exhaust. I didn't weigh it, but probably 1/4 to 1/3 lighter.
