About 5 days ago I started to notice a poping, grinding huming noises coming from my front axel when ever I turned. I have since stopped driving my disco to fix whatevers wrong, yesterday I was yard driving it to listen for noises I turned right and heard a pop and my whole car lurched upwards:eek:. what do you guys think 3rd member or cv joints?

I have a spare 3rd and I can get CVs.

Thanks guys:patriot:

Cheapest and quickest check - drain the fluid from the 3rd. If has metal in it like crazy, you found your problem.

My guess is a cv, which are easy to fix.

Gonna guess the 3rd member.

Pull it apart and see what's going on.

lock the transfer case and leave the transmission in park. jack up the front axle so that both front tires do not touch the ground and see if you can rotate the wheels. spinning one will spin the other the opposite way(unless you have some form of auto locking diff). listen for any noises . if all is fine, unlock the center diff chock one wheel and repeat.report back with the results.

I used to get similar symptoms on my 96 DI every once in a while, I think the problem was the output bearing in the TC

Did that, and the drivers front was locked and the passengers was free spinning.

if everything looked fine, why did you replace the third? just wondering.
both my original and my back up third looked fine, i just wanted to see if having a different diff would make a difference.
