CD2 fuel treatment.

The only reson i use this is because i used there Diesel treatment in my 300TD and it always incresed my fuel economy.
so i use it in the disco.

I like Seafoam. Just personal preference. Works in the gas, cleans out the engine guts when you add it before an oil change and when poured in the plentum cleans out the intake and MAF (just smokes like hell for a couple of minutes).:ack:

For performance its hard to be Toluene. Really get octane rating up there for pretty cheap. Some say you can run 30% safely but I dont run higher than 20% in my performance cars and in the Disco 2 gallons to a full tank is good.

Toluene is REALLLLLLLLY toxic.

Not really, but I'm a chemist:D

If you breathed it, it'll make you stoned (see the huffing thread), but won't kill you. Might give you cancer in 50 years if you drink it every day. It's not listed as a carcinogen.

Maybe you're thinking of benzene?

According to the ATDSR, it is toxic (I spent 19 years working in fields requiring my degree in chemistry).

X2 on it being toxic as hell. Not to mention a huge red flag if law enforcement catches you buying a large quantity of it. Its not illegal- but it'll get their attention pretty quickly

As long as it tastes good I guess.., I just put it in the gas tank. Plus, I dont know of one additive that doesnt have a recommendation that you dont drink it.

Well If you have a paint company and use it a cutter. There are no flags. They probably dont want it to get into the hands of meth-heads. I pick a couple of gallons every couple of months. The guys at the paint store make sure that they have it in stock for me.

Actually, you (we) are confusing toxicity (everything is toxic to some degree, even water) with the OSHA definition of "toxic:"

Toxic Definition

Toxic is defined by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200 App A as a chemical which falls in any of these three categories:
 1. A chemical that has a median lethal dose (LD50) of more than 50 milligramskilogram but not more than 500 milligrams per kilogram of body weight when administered orally to albino rats weighing between 200 and 300 grams per each.
 2. A chemical that has a median lethal dose (LD50) of more than 200 milligrams per kilogram but not more than 1,000 milligrams per kilogram of body weight when administered by continuous contact for 24 hours (or less if death occurs within 24 hours) with the bare skin of albino rabbits weighing between two and three kilograms each.
 3. A chemical that has a median lethal concentration (LC50) in air of more than 200 parts per million but not more than 2,000 parts per million by volume of gas or vapor, or more than two milligrams per liter but not more than 20 milligrams per liter of mist, fume, or dust, when administered by continuous inhalation for one hour (or less if death occurs within one hour) to albino rats weighing between 200 and 300 grams each.

For toluene, it's LD50 Oral (rat) is 5,580 mg/kg (the amount required to kill 1/2 the rats tested), which is > 11X the upper limit of the definition of toxic. According to that LD50, I'd have to eat 1.1 lbs of toluene to kill me (I weigh 200 lbs, assuming a direct correlation). I'd probably puke after eating just a quarter of that.

That doesn't mean that toluene does not have acute toxicity, i
e, breath it and you get stoned due to it's effects on the central nervous system (that's why huffers like spray paint, sniffin' glue, etc.).

Toxic is usually for those chemicals that will kill you NOW, like phosgene, chlorine, etc. Chronic exposure to toluene will likely mess you up, but spilling some on your hand won't really hurt you; maybe a slight burning sensation, depending on the person.

Class dismissed!:bigok:

EDIT - Re-read the above later after a couple of beers...sorry if that came across as harsh..it was 5pm on Fri and it's been a long week
:drink:

I just put in what is designed for fuel systems. I do run Techron fuel system cleaner every 3-6k mi (oil change, etc). If I get a misfire code(s), it clears them for a few thousand miles or more.

Fuel system cleaner is a bit more expensive than fuel injector cleaner, but works better than injector cleaner. It seems to clear the valves, saving a huge amount of $ on valve jobs.

I wouldnt use any of the chemicals listed above.. no idea how it may attack any of the components of the fuel system, injector, lines, etc, now or in the future. It is not worth it Run a commercial product that is designed for the purpose intended. If the truck is running fine, don't add anything!
