Just an FYI that I thought I would share with the Discoweb community out there (which has been really helpful to me). I'm really new at this, so no guarantees on anything here, but I am just trying to get a few more posts up here as I continue to explore and learn of the many woes my Rover has encountered.
Anyways, if you're currently experiencing the following problem (solution below; many thanks to user jdanish from landroverforums.com for helping me out here, and credit to him is certainly deserved for this fix):
Problem:
1) Your alarm works, and disengages;
2) all of your doors are locked (tailgate included) despite pressing the unlock button on your key fob;
3) you can't unlock your doors by pressing the unlock button on your central lock button next to your clock;
4) both your central lock and your key fob will lock your car (but again, won't unlock);
5) you can hear power to your locks when pressing unlock on your fob or on your central lock, but nothing happens;
6) the only ingress and egress to your Disco is through the driver's side front door;
7) you can't unlock any of the doors by pulling the interior door handle for any of your doors except your driver's side front door; and
8) you can only unlock your car by using the actual key in the lock on your driver's side front door.
9) you've checked all of your fuses and they're all in good shape, and not blown.
Solution:
You may need to change out your interior fuse box/block located under the steering wheel, behind the "fusebox facia." (If you have a 99-02 Disco, the fusebox original LRN Part # is [SIZE=-1]YQE000410. If you have an '03-'04 Disco, the original fusebox LRN Part # is [/SIZE][SIZE=-1]YQE000251) [/SIZE]What has likely happened is that your Disco likely had the infamous leak from the top left corner of the windshield (do a search on this site on solutions for this immediately, by the way). This water and condensation has slowly worked its way down into the fusebox and has fried or corroded your IDM (Intelligent Driver Module). Alternatively, there is a burnt out circuit or relay inside that box, but regardless, replacing the box solved this problem.
In reality, your car was probably "superlocked" by pressing the lock button on your fob twice, and then the short took hold and wouldn't allow those superlock latches to release (hence the inability to open the doors from within the vehicle). Pressing the unlock button (before getting a new box) will disengage the alarm, and allow the vehicle to start up, and drive, but will not manage to actually unlock the doors. Note: This really sucks when you're coming out of the parking lot at Lowe's and none of your doors will unlock (including the tailgate), and you have a cart full of stuff for a bathroom remodel weekend-job... loading through your rear windows becomes the only option.
I was able to get a used fuse block from user Will Tillery (one from a Disco from my year with less than 12K on it, which he guaranteed as well--Thanks so much, Will) for an extremely, extremely reasonable price. It arrived quickly and was bubble wrapepd nicely.
Installation is relatively simple and straightforward, as there's merely a fastener and pin that hold that box in place.
