I am in the process of replacing the passenger door lock actuator and I cannot for the life of me get the exterior handle control rod from the latch released. What is the secret to it? The door frame is still attached but loose. I can't get it to budge. All bolts are removed but the front of the frame won't move. Please help and thanks.

where i'm at right now, duh...
If I remember right that rod has a clip at the top that needs to be popped off before it comes free. It should just pop off and swing out of the way... take your hand and reach up inside there and see if you can feel it.

Update. I finally got the actuator out and placed the used actator in the door. Hooked all control rods and power and shut the door and it won't open. Took it back out and compared to old one and the latch assy. would not release. Missed with it for a hour and still couldn't get it to work like the first one so I placed it back in the door and now it will not open the door.

What I'm I doing wrong? 3 screws to attach to door, outside handle control rod, inside cable and power. Why isn't this damn thing working? Is there some type of adjustment that I need to do?

My passenger door actuator on my D1 quit working just this past week. It would unlock, but it would not lock. I took the door panel off and sprayed tons of lubricant down inside the door on all the mechanisms, and everything is working perfectly now. My first instinct was to replace actuator, but now I don't have to. Mine is a D1, so it may be different. Hopefully, a D2 owner with a similar problem will chime in. At least you'll get a bump to the top out of this. Good luck.

did you say you replaced it with a "used" actuator?? if so, are you positive it works?

so does it open with any handle? interior /exterior? just doesn't unlock?

they are finicky little devices... but should work ok..

I've replaced 3 of these on my 2002.

No, I'm not for sure that the used one works. When I put it in the door lock would work with the button on the dash but it would not open from either handle (inside or outside). So I put the one I took out back in (was replacing because the door lock was not operating) and now it will not open by either handle. Was working fine when I removed. I'm very confused and can not figure out why.

If it is the rod I think it is, it threads into a bushing lower down on the arm adjacent to the door catch. You have to unhook it from the top , rotate the rod clockwise, hook it back in again and try again. If you do that a couple of times it will probably start working. Its a matter of adjustment.

I will try that tomorrow. I just looked at it again and looks as though I'm going to have to pull the window regulator out first. It's bent up pretty good. I had been moving the window up and down and must have bent it. But looking at the bright side I will have more working room with the window out of the way.

Thanks.

When mine broke and I tried to fix it, there was a little green (or yellow?) plastic part that had come loose. It as about the size of a pencil eraser and has tiny teeth that hold it in place. It had fallen apart and was at the bottom of the inside of the door. Until I stopped by the dealership to pick up another one of those little plastic pieces, my symptoms were the same as yours.

I hope you get it worked out. :)

There is also a turnbuckle of sorts so that the length of the actuating rod can be adjusted. There is a very fine line between everything working and not - too fine a line in my book, and some of the connections can only be done by feel. You can see it - or get a hand on it - not both.

Ok I finally figured it out! Yeah! I disconnected the rod for the outside handle and moved the plastic piece down as far as it would go and then I reattached the rod. Works now.

As for window frame not coming out it was because I missed the bolt under the mirror. Once I removed it the frame came right out. Felt pretty stupid.

Thanks for all of the advise. :D
