How much do you use the nav screen in your LR3?

Welp, while i take my time to get my 97 Discovery back into working order, ive decided to take a look at some LR3s.

There are a lot of examples of them up in the PNW and its kind of hard finding ones that a good ration of not trashed/price.

What im finding mostly are:
super high mileage (190k+)
rotted sub frame/undercarriage
Camber adjustment tabs worn down/missing
abysmal interior (cracked dash/seats that are rough/dog chewed thru something)
Rotors/calipers need replacing
bad paint
parking brake is non-functional
airbags non-functional
Engine is good running order on all of them though (what a nice surprise)

The ones im finding that are acceptable/all working:
north of 12k-20k$
have no nav/4x4 screen
100-140k miles
minimal thrashing of the interior/exterior

My question with all things weighed, is the nav/4x4 screen worth it? Do i need it or can i live without it?

What would be the top limit you would pay for 100k-150k miles, everything functional, no issues with exterior/interior, no rust?

Skip it. A more practical solution is a flexible mount for your phone/tablet so you can run your Gap iiD app, Gaia, and mobile navigational app of choice. Bonus: you get the storage space where the nav screen would be.

$9,000 would be my max price for a vehicle meeting your criteria. My LR3 is in the mid-170K range and the engine is quiet, strong, and reliable. It has a few quirks, but has been a great vehicle.

I rarely use it. However, there are some very inexpensive options to swap in a Carpuride screen to get CarPlay, etc. You need the screen (~$170), a fiber optic loop ($10) and aux cord to connect to aux input on back of center console. If I keep mine any longer I plan to install one. Not the massive screens of todays modern cars but it’s a nice step up.

Very similar to mine. Of course any vehicle of this age/mileage will have some quirks but it’s treated me well. Reliable as hell compared to earlier Rovers

look outside your area. if you have someone that has access to auto auctions that would be a good place to find one cheaper. i live in the mid west and most that i found before i got mine were the same other than midwest lr3 price is like 4-8 grand. i found mine on an auto auction in alabama. it is a 08 hse with 160k on it i got it for 5500$. no rust what so ever! now i have had to put a lot into it including a rear diff but the motor and trans are good. also i thought i got lucky and got one without a cracked dash. turns out it has one of those plastic covers over it. fits really nice! could hardly tell that it was not factory .
anyway look outside your area. your almost guaranteed to have to put money into it so prolly should find a cheaper one

Im about to head down to Auburn to check out one for $5K that might be good.

Ive seen some comments around the internet to watch out for 2005-06 models. The one i'm about to go see is an 05, should I be worried?

Ive opened my search to about 500 miles from me but I may have to go farther. Plastic cover? Ill have to look into that. Does it account for the airbags on the passenger side?

Robby, if you want to come check out my LR3 as a point of reference (I'm not selling), you're welcome to take it for a drive and get a feel for what a well-sorted example is like. Might be helpful to inform your search. I'm in Mount Baker (Seattle).

That would be pretty awesome, thank you!

things moved pretty fast on one down in OR that I’m going to take a look at on Friday. It has a good service history (including oil analysis) and list of things updated/fixed and maintained by an enthusiast so I’m feeling pretty confident about it. Sounds like a nice dude selling it too.

not sure I’d be able to fit into your schedule before then but if I could, I’d at least like to see what I could expect from a functionality standooint.

I’m up in the Ballard area and can get to you after 3pm today/tomorrow.

Lmk if that could work, I appreciate the offer!

I've never even thought of using the nav in my 2013 LR4. You can speak into your phone now and say, "Take me to X place" and it will dictate directions to you. Why bother trying to type in directions on these incredibly poor auto touchscreens?

Same, the nav screen displays more than navigation though. It gives additional information on other systems in the vehicle.

I don’t have a Nav screen on mine. So that space just functions as another place to store things. I like that I don’t have another piece of dated technology in the cabin.
