...Tata launches a well equiped defender in the States in 2012?

Seems to me those 95s going for 28k will be reduced to 8-10k as long as the new Defender keeps enough of it's worktruck roots.

I think the old ones will drop but the new Defender will most likely be based on the RRS and LR4 platform so we shall see how good it will be. Hopefully they will bring over a diesel but that is not likely

what you are going to get is a RR with a defender type body. I don't think they will do much for the enthusiast market.

I think the new defenders have less to do with it than the aging euro ones being able to come in. In another 3 or 4 years you will be able to bring in ones that came with V8's and TDI's . I think a NAS D90 won't be worth 20 grand regardless of condition in 6 or 7 years.

But there are still a lot of people who use Defenders for utilitarian purposes, they would be stupid to move it away from that market.

Call me crazy.. but I think if they bring those UGLY LR2 on steroids all it will happen is NOTHING to the Defenders Here.

Now as the years for clearance of EPA/DOT come closer to the model years 1990 I think all the NAS Defender values will change dramatically

FWIW

You can already bring over older defenders that have been "updated", it should be interesting.

I guess unless the new ones are very similar to the old ones, or maybe a lot better, I would rather bring over an older one and make it nicer. Speaking of Rovers I am watching the derby special on ESPN and there is a nice Disco parked next to the gate...

Its all about numbers. The NAS trucks will continue to hold some degree of value over a same-year ROW truck simply because of their limited production numbers. From a collectors perspective, they're the ones to have.

IF, and it's a big if, Tata does what Royal Enfield did with the motorcycles, time will stop at about 1999 and we might see real Defenders.

Than again, if I wanted an "environmental" truck, I'd just cut the top off a Disco or RRC, that way, I'd be wet when it's raining, cold when it's cold outside and hot when it's hot outside, just like a Defender!

No, it's no Defender penis envy, I drove a SIII ex-MOD 109 as a daily driver for two years, almost three, I've earned my right to be critical!

I don't think it will have much of an effect. Everyone said the same thing when the R.O.W trucks started showing up.

The N.A.S trucks will still have a strong following, just like the old Camaro and Mustang folks. Sure they make new retro looking models, but there's an ass for every seat and people will still continue to buy them for $$.

Maybe not the average Joe, but the collectors still pay CRAZY money for these trucks and it won't change. Ask me how I know.

If you have a clean example of a N.A.S. 90 or 110, it's still money, not 8-10K.

Good Luck with that pipe dream of Defenders coming over here, and if, that's a big IF, they will be so "mall-ified" that you won't be able to tell if you're driving a 90 or a RR.

But hey, what the hell do I know. I still can't believe what people are willing to shell out for them. It's staggering.

You guys really need to get over the Defender thing. It won't happen.

I disagree, I think there is a chance the U.S. could see the Defender again, what's going to stop them from bringing it over if it has airbags?

OK , I'll bite. Let's say it does happen. The interior will be completely reconfigured(i.e. wannabe LR3 or some variant)
It will more than likely lose the solid axles(WTF) and while it MAY have some body line clues that it's a Defender, it will be a rolling P.O.S. bling ride.

Which if that is the case, it will cause the N.A.S. trucks to actually go UP in value because the new "Politically Correct" Defender is a sheep in wolfs clothing.

They're fawkin junk anyway. Seriously. You can wet yourself if you like over the thoughts of a Defender, but they are not that great.
