only 19 hrs?
tow truck companies bill hourly on winching and off rd recoveries...
as a tow truck owner and former tow company owner let me say i'd bitched if one of my guys got that truck as fast as they did...
once insurance agrees or i get dum dum to sign my ticket-i can charge whatever basically -as my deal -and they'll pay storage too as i get lien against the truck...my tow bills alone have totalled many vehicles as insurance adds it in to damages and will only allow so much before it goes. As recoverys go- that did not impress me as a very tough one at all to say the least...i prob wouldve drove the truck out and still charged in full for the recovery........
using the guys he had helping in the first place not suggested...
That's f@&ked up.

I'm still shocked it happened. I have driven many similar routes where the truck began to climb the air and I thought it was fun to control the loss of control and recover the truck. There are obstacles in the badlands where if one is careful you can get your truck to rock back and forth and everytime I drive that obstacle, I make sure to put on a good show with the truck rocking back and forth. If one is going slow and paying attention, such situations not only don't result in life-threatening body damage, but are good exercises in vehicle control and situational awareness.

edit-Discodown, you probably should have kept your mouth shut. memories are very long around here.

I didnt care for the towing business either and sold it off- but you guys wondered here so i brought you the absolute factual truth of how that type deal works in the real world - if yall wanted some sugar coated bullshit...I could provide that too. I can also add the dealers ,body shops, mechanics, insurance co.s,law enforcement, ambulance and medical care co's,ect.,ect.,and my competitors were WAY better at and MUCH less forgiving of outright fucking their customers than i EVER was by far. I did not expect accolades-though we all are glad to see a wrecker when needed,we all hate em...when i spun off the company from the shop i pulled one out of the deal and kept for my own use so i dont have to bend over for any of those vultures either. ( :
I apologize if any in the tow business or any other business were offended by this proper description.

The fact that you cloak what you say in a veil of "Im not goin to sugar coat it" does not take away the fact that you would rip people off - did rip them off by the sounds of it. If it were me and I couldnt recover it I would probably be there when it was recovered and that way no arsehole could take me for a ride. Having said that I know a bunch of tow truck operators in Australia and none that I know of would do what your talking about. Mate its that kind of attitude that will ensure that this world goes to the pack. Its all too easy to say that an insurer will pick up the tab...the insurer does, then raises premiums to suit, particularly for 4WD owners and then they pay....so your ripping people off, but just doing it through a middle man - nice going mate.

Nothing wrong charging 19 hours labor if it takes 19 hours. Sandbagging so it takes 19 hours rather than the acutal 10 (or whatever) if fucked up. Having worked in the contruction industry, in particular doing piping/welding/fitting work for chemical plants, I've been told many times, "Slow down, you're working too fast. We won't get as much money." Yup, fucked up.
