The smell of an 04 burning in, gotta love it

Probably cats or brake pads/rotors. Smell from my 04 went away after approx. 1st 300 miles.

My 04 (about 13K miles) makes that "diesel" noise when idling after startup as well. It actually does this for a several minutes but eventually goes away.

What causes this? Should I be worried? It has done this since day 1 I think, so I never worried. Maybe I should.

You guys need to worry more and go talk to your dealer. They will probably say it is normal. Just make sure they note your complaint in your service record and ask them to check it out.

I had a rattle in my '95 Disco once.
Took it to my mechanic and he told me it was all in my head.
As I shook my head to say no way dude ... I heard the rattling again and realized he was right!

Never under estimate the power of estimation which can only be overcome by the superiority of guesstimation.

they are getting harder to find if you are looking for a particular color/trim level etc.
I wanted a silver S and lucked out. I figured the duragrain interior and the 16" wheels of the S model were better suited to my use than the SE with fog lamps that I'd remove and 18" wheels that I' remove.
Prices are good right now and once they're gone, they're gone forever!

That's true Steve...can't do anything right now...but maybe in the Spring. I figure I'll be able to find one then, even if it's got 10K or so on the clock.

I didn't know you got one! Congrats!

I would probably get the SE...BVLR has lots of SE7s, but I hate those forward facing jump seats. Problem is....we also like the new F150 trucks and can't really afford to get 2 new cars! So, for now, we are keeping the 2 old Rovers.

I really wanted the jump seats, but after thinking about it- we really don't need them and they came with way too much other stuff we didn't want. Mine had the optional dual roof package that I didn't want, but actually now am glad I have 'em.
It's fun to drive, but I have to resist the urge to drive it all the time. It's supposed to be the "trip mobile" and not the everyday one. The big dilemma now for the Spring Rally and next year's MAR is how do we decide which two to bring?

I saw a picture of a 04 Disco with plastic fender flares removed, truck looks sweet, but do the flares seriously make noise? So far the noise I hear is from the dual roofs when going over a bump, at least I think it?s the roofs :)

dave, remove the flares. even if the rattle isn't affected, at least it'll look good. :)
and the sooner you remove, the less damage your fenders will have. the flares rub against the paint over time, and you'll end up with a mark there.

not to mention that the plastic things start fading. it's just plain nasty. take them off.

I agree, Ho. I think DIIs look better with some of the plastic removed (and even my 2003 has discolored plastic flares  ) The only thing that has me second guessing removing them is in diagonal parking situations, they make good protection against door dings.

One additional benefit of removal would be to eliminate the possibility of them getting stolen... say, overnight... :D

To combat fading, can the D2 flairs be resprayed with rino lining or similar product?

Ho, I removed the fender flares today Disco is looking good (Silver/Black). Has anyone removed the plastic running boards and the fender flares? If so got any pics?

I also turned off the automatic climate control and the engine noise clunk every 20-40 seconds stopped. If I turned automatic climate control back on noise came back. What does this mean?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave- You oughtta post a pic of the trimless Disco. I'm curious whether I should do that to mine (same colors as yours).
Hit the 'economy' button and that should turn off the AC compressor. I bey what you are hearing is the clutch on the compressor cycling. Mine doesn't seem to make any noise, but I could see the clutch cycling on and off.

If I press economy then sound also goes away, does the click/clunk sound mean something is broken and should be replaced. Sound was coming from right of alternator, from what think is the AC compressor. I will post fenderless pics tomorrow.

Thanks,
Dave

Most cars make a noise when the AC clutch cycles... mine didn't make any noise that I noticed, but then again I had a bad tensioner pulley squealing at the time.
I wouldn't worry about it unless it is really loud.
