Peter, I hear ya. It is about priorities. CA offers quite a bit, but I just prefer the balance of WA. It has a really nice cosmopolitan city atmosphere in Seattle and yet I can be fishing in a remote creek 40 minutes after leaving my house.

My two complaints with CA is that there are too many people which leads to horrible traffic and the gun laws are fucked.

What's wrong with California? The people who live in LA and the SF Bay area and their moronic politics.

What's wrong with Washington? Too many Californians have moved there.

I don't even know if our gun laws are fucked. Yeah, it would be difficult to get a full-on auto, but, short of that, it's walking into the store, filling out the form, and a few days later, getting your firearm. There may be some odd quirks in it, but in general they are the same as in many other states (VA excepted - but I wouldn't want to buy that POS Romanian AK47 anyway).

Huh?

Dude, your state's gun laws are fucked. That's why a shitload of dealers won't go to the trouble to ship things to Cali.

You can't buy a gun unless it's on the magical list. That means that there are millions of good, solid used guns that you can't buy, simply by legislative fiat.

Try to get a carry permit in LA or SF. Good luck, unless you're rich or famous or the son of the Chief of Police.

Yep, Cali is many things, good and bad, but gun-friendly isn't on the good side.

ahahahahaha! Nice.

Stu, Pete, CA's gun laws are not on my list of favorite things about the state. No "shall-issue" CCW, which is idiotic for reasons we all know, and something we're working on overturning, "the list", which is stupid too, and something we're working on overturning, and other stupid things like a round chamber indicator, ugh. 10-round mags and no removable magazines on semi-auto rifles is another annoying bit, but you work around it and live with it. At least it's still an Open Carry state, and body armor is legal.

Open carry as long as the fire arm is unloaded. Makes sense to me.
Open carry of loaded firearms in public is generally prohibited except in unincorporated areas where the county has not made open carry illegal or where the discharge of firearms is not prohibited. Carrying of an unloaded, unconcealed firearm in plain sight is not prohibited except in areas otherwise prohibiting the carry of firearms under state or federal law, such as school zones, post offices, government buildings, state and national parks, "sterile" areas controlled by security screenings, etc.[36][37] A proposed bill, AB 1934, introduced by Democratic State Assembly member Lori Salda?a of San Diego's 76th district, would prohibit the carrying of unloaded handguns within incorporated cities and prohibited areas of unincorporated territory.

Lots. Actually, a whole lot. I don't know how you research this unless it's posted in each wineries web site. But if you visit some of the wineries over near Orange, you'll see a lot of local, state, and International award winners. Horton and Barbersville winery come to mind as having a few. Many of the Horton wines have been selected each year to be served at White House dinners and banquets. I think pound-for-pound Horton winery is one of the best wineries on the east coast. Of course there are better wines than Horton, but their selection is not nearly as vast.

first of all, who ever said VA does not have good beer is a retard

Dan, have you been to Breaux?

California would be a nice place to live or visit if about 85% of the people there vaporized and took all their dumb ass ideas with them. Sort of a reboot of the system to clean all the crap out of the registry....:bigok:

Start naming them off there brain trust. VA has about as many good breweries as they have ski resorts. Go ahead......please list all the GOOD ones. This will be a short list as one thing I DO know is breweries.

Yuengling is far from a favorite. I grew up with it at Penn State. But Pennsylvania has over 70 breweries and most of those being quite good. Yards, Bull Frog, Barley Creek, Erie, Lancaster Malt, Stouts, Straub, Victory, Troegs, etc. VA has maybe a dozen or so and most of them suck. Star Hill blows. Old Dominion.....average at best. Capital City is pretty good.

Calhouns Brewery (now Callys), Devils Backbone Brewery, and Blue Mountain Brewery are all within several miles of my house. All are very god places.

Legends, Old Dom, Shenandoah Brewing, Wild Wolf....to name a few are some I've visited and had a good experience.

I don't mind Star Hill. I really like their Jomo. I'll agree that some of their shit sucks, just like for example some of Magic Hat beer sucks, but the #9 is not bad at all.

Queen City Brewery in Staunton is off the grid, but their beers are very good, especially when you get into some of their Belgium beers at about 7 to 8%. You can only buy them at his place, though, or you can make it yourself.

Water, I'm sure, makes the beer. Devils Backbone, Blue Mountain, and Star Hill have some of the best water sources on the east coast. It's probably the same reason Miller/Coors makes their beers here, too. All around these deep water wells is federally protected land (Skyline Drive) so I'm sure there is very little pollution entering the water source. The town I live in has three water wells to suppl the town, the deepest is 500ft and flows over 1,500 gallons a minute. I get a water testing report about every three months, and the water coming out of these wells is damn near perfect. The town has to do very little to treat the water. Course the hops and recipes have to be good, too, and it's been hard to get good hops the last few years. Blue Mountain grows their own hops.

Between the Crips and Chiques
The fiancee and I have been contemplating moving out of California for some time. We might honestly try once the economy makes job moves a little safer. I live west of LA about 45 min. I could rant about it (cali and LA) for a while but I'll try to keep it short. The housing market sucks, partially because the majority of the people will drive 45+ min one-way to work just to live out where we live, driving the prices up. Because of that, traffic congestion is horrible. Add in asshole drivers, ridiculous gun laws, a broke state (running how many years now?), having people stare at you because they don't understand your broken spanish, gangs, too many people, etc... The housing speculators are coming back too. There are pistols and long guns that are banned, the microstamping of bullets law, no ccw unless you're a celeb or friend of DA/sheriff, overtaxing.

I do love the weather and the variety of things to do outdoors, even if you have to wade through hours of traffic to get there.

Btw, saying Schwarzenegger is the reason for the budget problems in california and ignoring the democrats' desire to continue putting the state deeper in debt by more and more borrowing just to placate the unions and keep the nanny-state in full effect shows how whack your views are. Schwarzenegger is probably the main reason the budget is actually getting smaller. Now Dems are trying to pass a bill making a budget bill veto override a simple majority, because apparently the state of california's credit rating isn't bad enough already. Seriously, that's ridiculous. Complain about the high tax rate, but don't complain about why the taxes are high...hah. What a joke.

If anybody wants to take a look at the fight for gun law sanity in California, go to www.calguns.net and see what is happening.

Indeed - and in CA you can surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon. Much of western N. America is like this - deserts, mountains, etc.

Here in Ohio you can swim in July and ski in February. Sure it's not a day trip but it can be done.:D

On a side note: How about tracking down the STUPID SON-OF-A-BITCH that made my new gas can. I'd like to have a few words with that inbred Bastard.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but... a typical whining rant of a California loser.
It is strangely coupled with a very fair evaluation of Governator's performance.
