Is my heater control unit in backwards?

In the photo there are 4 screws at the corners of the unit. According to the shop manual, I should be able to pull the unit out once the screws are removed. However, the unit is sitting behind the fascia so unless I'm missing something that doesn't seem possible.

Is it in wrong or am I missing something?

That's the way it is. Remove the fascia to get at the control head.

Ok, just seems kinda odd that the manual says you can get to the blower switch without taking off the fascia. Actually, in the directions to get off the facia they say remove the control unit before the fascia.

Odd? A Land Rover factory manual? Tell me it isn't so! Well, you're working on a '95 with a manual at least as old. You'll be happy to know the new ones are still just as quirky.

Hey, no problem. LR made it better! In order to get the switch, you now get the whole damned panel!

I spent an hour yesterday just getting to the unit. I have yet to break anything but I might as well throw that section of the shop manual out the window. It took me awhile just to figure out how the damn radio comes out.

I finally got the switch out without breaking anything. Open the box for the new part and it's for an older classic. Rovers North claims you could never get the switch seperate from the unit. In anycase, the whole control unit is on backorder on Land Rover's end.

So I take it at one time you could get just the switch?

Does anyone have any leads on where I could find the switch?

No, the switch has never been avalible separate. :(

Rovers North has been dropping the ball quite a bit lately. I'm thinking about throwing in the towel on them.

Hmmm, maybe Chad was right for busting our balls for using them. Les took the order too, so it's not like they have some new guy screwing up orders. Maybe Monday mornings aren't such a good time to order parts. So PT Schram where are you getting this switch? It's a Siemens part. I googled the part number with no luck.

I have the damn thing out so it would be nice to find the switch.

I suspect the sent me the wrong timing cover gasket. The thing just simp-ly will not prime. I have to take it apart to confirm if it is the wrong one or not, but a serp belt cover on a V-belt will not prime the oil pump.

Luckily I had the whole F*&&ing engine together, so I get to take it apart.

If I did get the wrong one, that might be enoguh for me to go elseware.

You should be using the later style gasket, the one with the purple bead gping around it. RN lists it as a 4.0 cover gasket.

A 4.0 doesn't have a distributor driven pump.

Are you sure?

So you're fitting a serp cover to a non-serp motor, right? You need ERR7280. Thats the serp timing cover gasket. I think RN catalog lists it as a 4.0 only gasket...its not true...it fits all serp motors including the 95 LWB 4.2.

Well the whole unit has been on backorder with LR since july. Guess who claims to have one in stock Chris.

Hooray, I get to visit Plaza parts. :(

It only took like 20 minutes to tell me they had one, after they said I had the wrong part #.
