So the SecDef, says he doesn't care, has bigger fish to fry, but the President apparently has all the time in the world (forget NK saying we've declared war on them and they will respond, never mind Puerto Rico slowly dying, etc.)

Like I said, mountain out of a molehill.

Copout talking point. In reality the president has spent less that one hour over the past week devoted to this topic. More like 30 minutes.

I can see where our service members would be the bigger people and say 'Doesn't bother me, I protect that freedom.' but deep down it must hurt to some extent, at least, for a number of them.

brian,

please do not take this the wrong way and i do not mean to offend you personally, it's a general statement out loud.

the only thing that offends me, as a veteran, the son of a vietnam veteran, and grandson of many veterans, is when non veterans speak for me. veterans serve for numerous reasons, and this may surprise you many are like me and my father (my father volunteered for vietnam)...we are absolute bleeding hearts, regarding social oppression imposed by tyrannical ideologies.

please do not feel any obligation to assume ALL veterans are in some way offended by anyone choosing to not interpret the flag as we interpret it. have some empathy for those who do not see things the way you see them.

by doing that you too are buying into the divide and conquer.

for fuck's sake this shit has now turned military widows against other military widows. do you not see the bigger picture here at all??

Ray, it's important to some, who are you to take that away by calling it a 'distraction'?

Because it was basically dying down, and then Trump went fanned the flames.

Do you really think Jerry Jones was planning on taking a knee before the game Monday prior to Trump's inflammatory statements?

It's a distraction because it's sucked all the air out of the news, which is overshadowing some of the following:

Oh, and Facebook has said that over 3,000 (what they've found so far) ad spots were purchased by Russian entities to sway US public opinion during the last election.

Yeah, I wonder what reasons Trump would have to cause a distraction.

Trump has taken the Roman "bread and circuses" to a new level - all circus, no bread.

Mike, not speaking for you at all. Simply stating the facts. There are civilians and service members that are offended by this, there are some that aren't offended as well. We can't rewrite history. Our Anthem and colors have been displayed during events since the 1800's in a sign of unity and patriotism.

Scott, go cut and paste this over on the Trump thread, it will be happier there.

is not a fact, it's your opinion. a fact is when i, a veteran, openly says and means it doesn't bother me. now if you would've said 'i know a lot of veterans and they openly say, to me, yes it actually offends them'.

let's just agree to disagree and focus on the real issues. where's the manufacturing, where's the wall, where's the tax reform? why isn't there public outrage regarding equifax's recent activity? honestly, that's why trump won the election right? like ray consistently asks...where's the governance? i understand the media isn't giving him a fair shake, but i thought he was elected due to his ability to succeed when met with opposition?

I'm actually looking forward to NFL this weekend to see what the chumps do. And I never look forward to watching NFL. Those boys are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

football is boring, now if they took away all the play stoppage, allowed everyone to have body contact all the time, put them on ice skates then maybe i'd watch!

the shit i dont understand is, lots of these degenerates have criminal records and beat the shit out women yet this is the issue that would make people stop watching?? how many spend any of their money to help the ghetto or farm town they came from??

Hold on, let's not Cherry pick, my point was that all facets fall on either side of the issue to some degree and if you weren't sensitive to the topic you would have seen that. I do have friends and immediate family that are Veterans and some care some don't. My point. Remington Research survey says 62% of Americans give a damn, like it or not. Stand the fuck up and show some respect during the anthem, like every single fan in all the Stadiums across the country. (Not you Mike, this was a generalized statement.)

I love how you list everything that Trump hasn't done and nothing that he has. I could do that with every president ever in our countries History. Again, this is not the Trump Thread, I stopped posting there because it became a clearinghouse for shit like this.

brian,

my point is why is the flag the reason people will stop watching these guys and paying their salaries?

I agree Mike, hell, if you remember Goodell almost stepped down because of all the Ray Rice crap. There is a lot (as you listed) in the NFL that are not the best America has to offer I agree. The club I keep up with (Panthers) are for the most past a class act. However, this doesn't excuse the acts of all the others. Yet another reason to boycott.

The Ray Rice incident was huge when it happened and if memory serves many did boycott, but not nearly enough. I think all this is coming to a head.

and the bigger question i have is who's really behind this? why now? and im not referring to trump. the discourse we're seeing is bigger than trump.

‘Never interfere with an enemy while he’s in the process of destroying himself.’

who really has anything or everything to gain when all of our media is focusing on the division instead of the progress? all media. left right and especially the conspiracy ones.

think about it. aside from when im at the hockey rink (5 days a week), everyone is so fucking polarized. then again im in the blast radius.

what is the vibe in north carolina? it'd be interesting to see if division based on location is happening...in other words what is a historically divisive issue in north carolina and is there a lot of attention centered on that topic?

up here it's specifically political. in urban areas it's race. in the rural areas it's the flag. you get what im gettin at? i know its sounds paranoid but is there something other than just us influencing the discourse??
