Steve,
just say when ;)

as far as camping, any time beyond late oct, moab get real unpredictable for camping beyond that. (i.e. really cold @ night, early evening showers lasting 30 mins. or so, and ofen windy.
moab off season hotels etc.. are very reasonable during this time, rooms can be had from $30 to $60 a night, condos are also cheaper.

i typically hotel it when going to moab, unless i'm going some place remote. call me soft, but i like warm showers and cold beer if it's an option :D

bring you hiking shoes and a mountain bike, there's tons to see

anytime in Nov is good for me (the wife owes me a few solo trips... minus the kids)

Good call on the hotel thing. I love camping as much as the next guy but sometimes the cold really sucks. I'll be ready anytime after oct. My sister's getting married in a couple of weeks. I probably shouldn't miss that.

Hey Curtis, early Nov?

How about some of you big talkers?

Early November is good. The 2nd weekend would work best for me, but I might be able to do the first if needed. Big talkers are welcome, but be aware that us locals are wimps so we may not challenge you much. Besides, our rigs are pretty much stock.

Marc - you gonna have your junk running by then  :D

Fall / winter is my favorite time of the year in Moab. I will try to make it depending on my work schedule.

I would want to have some kind of idea of the trails that we are running prior to driving out though.

One question for Kyle, Rob, or Ax since you guys are some what near me on the east coast. About how much coin you guys ussually spend going out to Moab, wheeling, and back to the east? Just wondering how many banks I'm going to have to rob to make the trip. :)

Hrmm, those Camel Tropy Guys seem to be running some crazy stuff on basically stock discos. They winch a lot. They some times use ladders. They rock!

Eric , I have never really payed any attention to what it cost us. As a general rule though we average three full tanks a day for the gas end of it...

Yeah and you'll be fighting the wind headed west (more $$$) but it will be much easier coming back. Those with a roof rack can expect to pay 25% more, assuming you drive at 80+.

Cool, that's about what I was looking for since I didn't know the miles.. Well, if I have enough money by April I'll go.. Being that my job doesn't pay me any money though we'll see what happens between then and now.

Wow, I was gone for a few days and now look!

Kyle, I'm not trying to tell anyone "how it's done". It's just that it seems like anytime an option is offerred that's not standard practice on a Rover, you start preaching about how it's totally unneccesary.

I put on the stuff that was supposed to make my rig stronger. For whatever reason, driver error, driver skill (or lack of), whatever, it didn't work FOR ME. I couldn't care less if anyone ever duplicates what I've done to my rig. I'm building it for me and for how I use it.

In case you don't know, my rig is my daily driver. That's right, I get in it everyday and drive it to work and back. I rely on it to get me to my job so I can earn the money for my family. So yeah, I realize how important it is to keep it intact.

As far as Moab goes, I'd love to meet up and run those trails with you guys. And not to prove anything, but to just wheel together instead of always arguing about petty things. Who's to say what the right or wrong way to equip a vehicle is if it's not your own. I mean, that's like me saying ponytails are rediculous. And I'd never say anything like that. ;)

What sucks is that you guys want to do this and I just got back from there a few months ago. Add to the fact that my wife is having a baby mid Feb, and you can understand when I say, regrettably, I won't be able to make it back out there anytime within the near future.

But, I do plan on going back out there, so I'll be sure to extend the invitation as you have so graciously done. :)

By the way, you never did tell me what those tractor parts were the you referred to.

I would love to go in April, in fact I was planning a trip then anyway! If some there is some planning or organizing that needs to be done let me know what I can do to help.

As most of you have probably not noticed, I've been away from this board for a while. I see the same old shit is still flying.

As a commercial real estate broker, sometimes I have to educate clients without them knowing it. For example, I'm working with a guy right now who thinks he can buy an office building in a certain part of town for a reasonable price. Now, I know that what he wants doesn't exist. Every broker in town knows it doesn't exist. But this guy ain't going to take my word for it because he's a self-made sharp business practitioner. So I have to hold his hand and pretend like I don't know whether it exist or not, and two months from now he'll realize what's what and will do a lease and I'll get paid.

If I didn't have the patience to educate this guy, I'd be Kyle.

Just freakin listen to him already and save yourself the time and trouble.

When it comes to this type of shit, he's Alpha, whether you like him or not.

I've been following this board a long, long time and have seen these same arguments time and again. Kyle has been there, done that and doesn't have the patience to hold your hand while you argue with him about what the best way is to wheel these trucks.

And before it starts, I dont know him, don't know if I like him or hate him, and don't care if he likes what I say or not. I don't even wheel that much. Just trying to point out something I've noticed.

See ya in another six months or so.

This tread has gotten really old, but it just seems really odd that others on the BBS like "some " HD parts, but think others are unnecessary.

Like:
Pelicans over Action Packers
Stock diff over DT, TT or ARB
Stock axles over GBR
Rovertym, TJM, RS, over ARB
RTE over OME
OME over Red Rider
this roof rack over that one
my winch is better than yours
this part is more elegant than that one..........it never ends

So, when it comes to a stronger diff or stronger axles we are thinking "out side the box", when in reality, the Rover stuff is more or less junk. It's OK to replace this junk with "after market" parts, but don't dare replace it with parts from another truck (tractor parts).

Time after time you read threw these treads and someone gets flamed for making there own bumper, selecting an inexpensive winch, running particular tires, or even buying a watch from Wal-Mart. And, every-time its the same old people ragging on these people for buy/running these parts. Either these people have made millions and know what they are talking about, or they are full of crap with nothing better to do but make others feel inferior and read a bunch of books to make them selfs feel good.

So, if you guys "know how to drive", have "the best parts avalibile", "the know how to do something better than anyone else on the planet", why have I never seen any of you on a Top Truck Challange video, or on T.V. climbing Mt. Everest with nothing but a power tank and a pelican case?

What it all boils down too is this; It's not your truck, its not your money, it's not your type of wheeling. You don't have to fix it when it breaks, you don't have to look at it in your driveway. If these people don't want to take your advise of an "after market" part, fine. people read this BBS to see what other people are doing with there trucks and seeing what works, what will get you by, and what is junk (aside from the tech talk, and regulas BS). Some people need the "enough to get me by" help, some just talk, some really don't care what it cost. Give you opinion, personal experance, and let the others deside what they need, because it's really not up to you to deside.

D-

Most things discussed on this site is based purely on opinion. It is an ongoing battle between "my truck and yours", but people still ask for everybody's opinion. Even you. You're right though, everybody has a certain idea on what their truck should be. As long as you are happy with your truck don't take criticism the wrong way. I could care less what everybody does with their vehicles and what kind of offroading they do. I'm not a fan of Nadim's disco, but at least he has the balls to ship it over here and put his money where his mouth is.
