So....does pulling on the new LRP lower tailgate handle from inside the vehicle automatically free the upper glass hatch when the lower tailgate releases? Seems like that is how all this works....

Oh Bill,

Let me entertain you.
We drove from San Diego to Mammoth Lakes on Sat. - 420 miles. Upon arrival - noticeable gas smell. I chalked it to 9k ft difference in elevation and went to sleep.
Next morning - once you start the truck, it smells of gas. And there are drops of it on the protection plate under the tank.
Dan Kemper called it correctly in 10 minutes and told me what broke and what part to buy. It's on top of the gas tank.

Is this recall for this issue?

Hmmmm, I have a code for emissions evap system leak and I occasionally smell fuel. Replaced the fuel filler cap and didn’t correct. Figured it’s the purge valve. Have an appointment at my independent shop next week.

"Land Rover says that owners who have already paid to have this defect repaired will be covered by the Land Rover reimbursement plan."
Yeah.
I wonder how that works, since I don't keep receipts for everything.
The f'n filter housing/flange was purchased online in LA.
The first job on it was done in Mammoth Lakes, CA.
The second job on it was done in San Diego, CA (since the shop in Mammoth Lakes had to reuse the original O-ring).
Now, I don't see that this recall covers the fuel pump itself, which was another protracted clusterfuck.

IIRC the fuel pump cover recall only covers the earlier trucks with the “old” design even though the new one has the same issue. It wasn’t a hard job to do myself.

I'll have to install the Land Rover Passion tailgate release this week. Right now I'm chasing down a supremely annoying, high-pitched squeak in my rear bumper/spare tire swing arm assembly. It's still so damn hot out here that I just don't want to fuck with anything outside on the truck.

After thoroughly inspecting, tightening, and lubricating everything on the rear bumper & swing-away I found the source of the squeak. It was one of the latches on the lower tailgate. A quick shot of Rem Oil and no more squeak. Will have to get that interior tailgate latch installed now.

Well my problem was indeed the leaking fuel tank flange that will be the subject of the upcoming recall. $851 from my local independent Rover shop. I also blew $60 on an over-priced fuel cap from the local LR dealer. Picked the LR4 up from the shop this afternoon. Drove it 50 miles this afternoon and another 50 miles this evening to set and then pick up an 8-hour air sampling canister. When I got back in my truck to leave the jobsite at midnight, on comes the yellow warning triangle with an admonition to check my fuel cap. Whatever, you fucker. Then when I'm pulling into my neighborhood about 20 minutes later the steering is obviously all fucked up....cue the moans and groans from the power steering pump as I drive another 1,000 feet to my house. Pull into my driveway, shut it down, grab a flashlight, fluid dripping out from all over under the front, driver's wheel is coated on the inside. Pop the hood, not much to see other than smoking power steering fluid. Damn, I wish Toyota made a vehicle I like.

I think it's just coincidence. One thing I found favorable about the LR4 in my research was the bullet-proof power steering pump! My shop is going to fit me in today and see if they can fix it. I'm looking forward to a long-planned camping trip tomorrow for my 50th birthday and I'll be supremely disappointed if Land Rover lets me down. I was researching alternative 4x4s on the computer until 2:30 this morning.
