CRAPTASTIC. Just F-ING great.

May have a lesson in being even more of a minimalist unfolding. Ha!

3 months in New Zealand and only one 38 pound pack I thought was pretty darned minimal. United felt otherwise for me I guess. :banghead:

Well see if they find it - if not I'll start the claim process with them and get some $$ from my credit card as they offer complimentary lost bag coverage too.

Trouble is I have a lot of really nice North Face, Patagonia, Mountain Hardware etc gear ... Probably never be able to *really* cover my loss if they decide to shit-can my bag.

Oh by the way I am still in the States currently. Grand Junction Colorado - saw a nice red D90 on 6&50 highway last night. :)

Also a sweet d2 with what looked like about 38's on it this morning in downtown GJ. White with what looked to be a RTE front bumper?

I'm sporting a 1979 F250 4x4 baby blue with a cap. Sweet. :) brother in laws truck we have used for years when we come out here. Either the Ford or his lifted 84 LandCruiser beast. Fun.

Start your claim now with the airlines. It will take them 6 weeks or more to even start looking into your claim. Not like the Swiss airlines, who gave my parents a voucher for clothes and new luggage at the counter back in the 70's. I finally ditched the last of that plaid luggage in 2003.

good luck, they will show! If I had a few bucks every time this happened to me each month I would be wealthy. lost two bags for 3 days when coming home through Heathrow two months ago.

You have to go in person and get in the baggage monkey's face. My daughter lost one last month. They told her it wasn't on the plane, they couldn't find it, it was gone. My wife went over to SFO and got up their butts and all of a sudden they mysteriously found out it was on another plane that arrived later in the day.

Dude, that blows - hope you get yer pack back ASAP. I'd be pissed as hell if I was in Colorado this time of year without any of my gear. Definitely get on the airline ASAP about that shit, make yourself a pest until they give you what you want to make you go away.

I've only ever had one lost back (knock on wood), when I came back from Europe when I was 15. It arrived the next day, luckily. Hopefully you'll experience something similar.

No chance them finding your luggage, they will be way to busy strip searching an 80 year old grand mother in a wheelchair....

This is funny. A friend of mine just lost a ton of possessions thanks to United Airlines.

I don't really understand how this happens all too often.

Thanks Guys - I have been in their faces, called everywhere, been "cool" about it but persistent.

So far zero, nada, nothing. :(

Claim process has begun so we will see what happens.... sucks but I suppose it's all part of the adventure! Ha!

Doug

PS: Carey you can suck it.

Sorry to hear about your bag. I'm heading to Hawai'i in a few weeks to do some hiking & am very worried about losing my gear. UPS sounds like a better option. I can ship it from work & have them issue a call tag when I'm ready to ship it back.

Am I the only one who wonders where all this stuff eventually ends up? I'm guessing that there's an airline employee-only auction every few months to clear out a warehouse of "lost" luggage.

I think I'm most worried that an airline lost a package...

I'd like to think that the security requirements would be such that tracking would be better.
It's not lost, it's stolen. Don't worry about security, that's how the find what they want to steal. My daughter mistakenly had a laptop and camera in her luggage and TSA aquired that. Pretty neat when you can xray every bag to figure out what to help yourself to.

If you think UPS doesn't lose stuff constantly you are woefully misinformed.

I want that. I have bad luck with airline baggage...fuckers, especially after you have to pay $$$ to get your bags on the plane nowadays. What gives???

Pretty sure you're not permitted to check a bag that is actively transmitting any sort of electronic signal.

Re: Lost by United Airlines: one mountaineering pack with three months of clothes/equip.

My "case" officially has been "transferred to headquarters" AKA my bag is gone, so some asshat helped themselves to it and I am getting it in the ass.

I am not happy.... now I have nobody local at all to talk with and get some help. Just an 800 number to someone who could care less. Fvck me. I have been really positive through this but it's getting a little hard at this point.

About to call my CC and see what they can do *today* for me as I leave in a few days for three months and don't have time for too much United Airlines BS.

Everything in the bag is replaceable, couple items were a little sentimental but not that much. In the end it's not THAT big a deal - just a pain in the butt.

What a shit storm.

I'm healthy, have great family and friends around me and it's Christmas..... it's all OK. :)
