Exactly. 12MPG for a disco is nothing to write home about, especially given its size. We also have an Exploder (Explorer), and it gets about 20mpg. For a truck the size of a disco, Gas chugging is a big weakness. I would even bet the window sticker of an H2 comes in around this 12mpg number, if not better.

That being said...I would not trade my DII for a LR3 or an H2...The LR3 is just too refined to do the trick, and the H2 is the biggest poser vehicle I have ever seen...at least until the H3 comes out.

when i said that Land Rovers get bad gas mileage i was just stating that "disco-kings" was being a hypocrit because thats what he was saying about H2's....but what do i know

Despite my comments on LR3 in another thread, I'll take it off-road over H2 any day. You NEVER see H2's on trails in Colo. They are MIA. Why? They are too damn wide,,,wouldn't fit on most trails and only use on shelf-roads would be plunging to your death. Break-over angle horrific (not that LR3 is a star in this dept). H1's got same problem w/ width but makes up for it w/ other strengths like extreme off-camber ability. Good buddy of mine just bought an H2,,, It's got all the bling-bling, etc. Killer stereo, DVD in back seat (he doesn't even have kids), on-board blender,,, it will never see the trail. (It's great in deep snow though,,,,)

What? I have seen a bunch of them offroad. Been with some, they do quite well if you can avoid busting the stock tie rod ends. There are even some H2 lurkers on this board. Seen them on wheeler lake and holy cross- not bad.

Wow, that's really surprising. But I take your word for it. Given all the narrow shelf roads w/ drop-offs,,,,even on extremely easy trails,,,,I'm surprised. I'm trying to talk my buddy into taking his pristine new H2 out this weekend,,,,we'll see.

Flame away, but I like the H2 truck. I think it looks cooler than an avalanche and they canned the Sport track. I think if LR made a Truck-UV it would be pretty cool. I might buy one. (I doubt it though) If I needed a 4-door truck that I could take people around in and still put dirt and shit in the back, I like the H2 truck the best.

The reason I don't have and won't buy a domestic vehicle is the lack of quality on the fit and finish. The H2 looks pretty cool, (and they have cool commercials) but inside it's no nicer than a Cavalier with cheap GM leather.

LR do make a truck -uv it's called a Defender 130 dual cab.

There's a 110 pickup, too, isn't there? Probably still more payload than the H2 truck. The problem is that we can't ge these things over here unless you get them custom built. I'd be all over something like that if we could :(

You've got to be kidding me. This really has nothing to do with who rolls easier, or who would get stuck first. The LR3 is a much better vehicle than the H2. The H2 is junk.

Ask anyone at Blackwater or Halliburton. They started using the H2 in Iraq when they first went over there. They soon realized that they were spending way too much money on an oversized and VERY ugly suburban. But they couldn't get rid of them because they were all broken. They had to replace them with old '70's and '80's Toyotas. Even the Iraqi's wouldn't buy the H2's off the Americans after they saw how stupid they were. One of my brother's translators was offended that a guy from Blackwater tried to sell him one.

Come on, you can't be serious...

On the other hand, my brother was in an up-armoured H1 that took 30 rounds of small arms, 1 RPG in the door, 1 RPG over the front tire, 1 RPG on the rear window -- all in the same ambush -- and they STILL drove away. Ya, the truck wouldn't start again after they shut it down, it had to be rebuilt. But THAT is a Hummer -- the H2 is a badge on an overgrown tonka toy, nothing more. It is designed, built, and marketed to 30-40 year old's who have money to spend, egos that they don't know how to control, and no common sense. It's a mud bogger Chevy for they guy who doesn't want to be labelled as a red neck. You might as well put a suburban against the LR3 and see what the outcome of the poll would be.

Why do I care so much? Because it's embarrasing that the LR3 seems to be the best American car makers can come up with.

Whatever he does, do not let him apply too much accelerator. If he gets some traction un expectedly and lurches that beast at all and hits a tie rod, its toast. They did really well on wheeler lake. Must be a really good driver on holy cross, and some of the obstacles there might take a winch (don't even know if it is possible yet this year anyhow).

I have about an 86MB video of D1 and H2 doing wheeler lake. If someone has a place to host it, I can put it there. Has one of the most awesome wheels stands I have seen, performed by Brian Friend.

But which one going to have all these features:

From LR3 link in "Almost-Great Cars" @ http://biz.yahoo.com/weekend/almost_1.html

"Clearly, Land Rover has added value to its midsize SUV, but the vehicle still lacks such increasingly common luxury features as a rearward camera to assist you in backing up, sun shades for the side windows and adaptive cruise control--all of which are available on Toyota's Sienna minivan. It doesn't have adjustable pedals either."

So what is it? Off-Road Truck or Minivan? Yea, I guess I could have used sun shades for the side windows on those sunny days off road. Hell - let me take the top off!

"If only I had the back-up sensors -- then I'd have a REAL CAR!!" Said the driver about his Ferrari.

By those standards, the Toyota Sienna and the Cadillac Escalade are the only Truely Great Cars ever made.

Yep you can get a 90 a 110 trayback, 130 dual cab trayback, and a 110 extreame wagon that has Disco alloys, traction control, metalic paint and some bling stuff. All come only as a TD5 5 speed and they all have a centre diff lock like the Oz discos. A few after market LR shops do auto box conversions. The 90 and 110 are considered the most capable off the shelf 4x4 in OZ. We don't get any Hummers here at all, except for a few private imports. No one would buy them, Holden imported Suberbans for a while, but only sold a few no one was interested.

Of course if you what a H2 that really works on and off you can buy a "Hammer" Hummer replica body and put it on a real 4x4. A guy south of Brisbane here make full zinc plated steel Hammer bodys in short wheel base, long wheel base wagon, and dual cab pick up. These bodies are really trick in the flesh and bolt on to MQ and GQ/GU Nissan Patrol chassis, cost is about $16k OZ I think and all need is a rusty/rolled Patrol from 1988 to 2003 as a doner. He has designed them so that all the Nissan stuff just bolts in, A/C, wireing, instruments, pedals etc. Check it out
