Hey Shaun

I note in passing that Jamie Dunn (B105 fame) had a Suburban for a while - used to suit his bulk. However he saw the light and for the last couple of years has owned a Defender 110 Extreme (even had the chequerplate installed!).

Cheers mate

PS. I bet a mate of mine that the V6 would chew the fuel more than the V8 and that looks now to be correct. I cannot imagine a 4.0 with 2 less cylinders than mine and about an extra 400kilos or so on board getting decent economy. I drive my 2002 V8 Man in and out from the burbs both in an out of peak hour (about even split) and get an av of about 14.5 litres/100k which I think is pretty bloody good for a big truck. When I tow the boat (2ton) chew more juice but not as much as you might think.

They are good things particularly if the doner is a 4.2 turbo diesel.

Yeah. They are great-- the ULTIMATE poser vehicle. Patrol ain't even close to an H1.

That H2 vid is the good example of what can happen to the tie rod end. NBD, just replace. There is a really good video of what the H2 can do without breaking, somewhere out there. I would post it, but it is too big.

There are plenty of H2's in Castle Rock. They seem to be excellent for driving out of snow-covered suburban driveways, picking up groceries at Super Mondo Mart, picking up kids at soccer games, etc. Rappers look fly gettin' out of 'em. Seen a few parked outside clubs downtown Denver. I still haven't seen any on trails & can't imagine that breakover angle would do anything but hang 'em up. I have however seen video of H1's taking amazing off-cambers, there's a good video of H1 on Rubicon out there. I would be petrified to take H1 or 2 on shelf-roads/switch-backs due to width. There's no margin for error.

Don't know much about H1s, not many here and most if not all are just for poseing, but Patrols get actually used pretty hard. Few years ago there was a prison break out here in Queensland and there was a bit of a shootem up. State government decided that the gaurds needed more protection so they got a heap of armoured Hummers. After 4 years they stopped using them because they couldn't keep them on the road, were always breaking down and were super expensive to run. Late last year they cut their losses and auctioned them with no reserve just to get rid of them. It was a bit of a scandle at the time when it came out what they paid for, what they cost while they had them and how little they got for them.

Then drive the f'ing patrol!! Why stick a stupid H1 poser body on it eh? Thats my point. I would say that about 50% of the H1 here are poser, but you do see them on the trails and they do perform well when maintained, and from what I have heard, they do take quite a bit to maintain, especially the earlier ones.

No thanks Bri I stick to My Disco. Well I do drive Patrols from time to time as a couple of mate have them, they are very popular here for serious off roading and for competition. Lotts of cheap off road stuff for them everyone sells it. They are also pretty robust if you get a 4.2 indirect injected diesel turbo or not and the 5speed. transfer box and diffs seem to give no trouble, they break CVs however. They don't drive as nice as a Disco on road or off. The biggest problem is they rust like bastards and the roof just about falls off at the drip gutters. If you can keep a body on them they will do 700-800k km with little maintanace other than oil changes. I guess this is one of the reasons why this bloke is making bodies, heaps easier to make a Hummer then a Patrol and if you have a rust GQ Turbo diesel with 150K on it bolt one on and do an other 600.
I'm helping a mate with a 4.2 GQ turbo he picked up for $3k AUD, low mileage grandad car the thing is perfect apart from a rusty roof. We got a new factory roof skin and replaced it, but the rest of the body is sweet as is the trim and drive train.

Agreed. I saw their advert in 4-Wheeler. Slap a mock H1 body on a pick-up, or whatever? Hey, to each his own, no hard feelings. But isn't this like the definition of poser?

Fraser Island and the rest of the Great Sany National Park is God's country and best of all it's only a couple of hours up the road. There are heaps of islands in Morton Bay just off Brisbane which are great as well Morton Island and Stradbroke are the pick for 4x4 driving and camping. I live 5 min from the Barge that runs to Morton. The only problem is european back backers that hire 4x4 and roll them on the beach when the hit a wash out at 60mph. Australia is one big 4x4 adventure for those who chose to have a look. There are some great trecks you can do, some like the Canning stock route require you to get fuel dropped in because they are so remote. The best trips are the Cape / Gulf and the Kimberly run to North west Oz there are places where we white fellas have never been even in 4x4s

I haven't been over for a couple of years due to Kids, I purchased A Jayco swan camper, wife likes comfort (like mirco wave etc) now with kids. It depends which side you want to stay on, the Bay side or the ocean side. I always used to stay at Eagers creek if there was room, there were toilets there and a cold shower, this is on the surf side. A mate of dad's has a lease from the state gov for a school camping ground. He has tents and stuff set up up all the time so that schools can bring the kids over, suposed to be a nice set up, but I haven't been there, Dad went and had a look a few months back. below is a link to the camp sites, I used to just camp behind the dunes on the surf side a bit in my old series 2A as well but that was years ago.
