Who has driven the V6 supercharged LR4? Ive driven the V8 and loved it, we have a V6 loaner right now but I haven't had the chance to drive it, yet...

Looks like a LR4 might replace the LR3. Just don't know if the V8 is a better buy than the V6, especially with 60 more HP and almost same MPG...

Thanks,

I wouldn't have a v6. It's 1 mpg better on the highway, same in town. It's insane. I have no idea why anyone would want a v6

The change to V6 was a huge bummer for me and the reason I moved quickly to snap up a V8 LR4 when I could still find a new one. Adam Check helped me find one.

V6 is the way of the future.

I say that tongue-n-cheek, so no one take that the wrong way.

The V6's are cranking out some huge numbers these days. I would buy an EchoBoost F-150 without hesitation if I were in the market for one. Great truck with great power. A lot of your higher end car/trucks/SUV's are coming out with a V6 option. A 300HP V6 is nothing these days. Although a V8 may gain a bit more power/torque, does it really matter in your daily driver?

I would not hesitate to buy a V6 if it fits your needs as long as it's a reputable engine.

If the next gen LR/Jag Ingenium engine variants make it to this market I would rather have one of those in diesel form in the LR4/Discovery or Range Rover. Depending on what replaces the Defender that might be something to consider as well.

It's not just the power, it's how it's delivered. V6 engines have historically been guilty of giving you everything they have all at once in a tiny little spot on the tachometer. I don't care how much power I have; I want it spread out enough to actually enjoy it.

The last Ecoboost I tested (a Lincoln Navigator) seemed pretty nice, though. That said, it's relying on extra tech to make it happen, and it's not exactly surprising in that way.

There have only been a few great V6 engines, and every last one of the damned things that I can think of have been turbocharged. You're going to have to buy into the idea of everyday forced induction if you want to buy into the idea of the V6 replacing the V8.

Cheers,

Kennith

4.3L Chevy V6 is probably one of the greatest engines ever built.

It is noticeably slower in the LR4 than with the V8. It wasn't a big deal when they did this to the RRS since they made the body so much lighter. Its still a nice car to drive and the V6 wouldn't keep me from buying one.

That's just it. The Ecoboost V6 in the F150 is awesome but the LR V6 in the LR4 is a substantial downgrade. As far as I can tell, it was rolled out primarily to satisfy federal fuel efficiency regulations.

The Syclone in general was an engineering marvel by itself - with it's Pontiac Sunfire interior, mini-van drive train and balls to the wall Sonoma truck platform. It was and still is the wet dream for rednecks from around the mid-south. Their market value rivals that of Jaguar X types.

I'm gonna go with a 1st gen Acura NSX.

That depends on what one considers "great"; reliability and ubiquity, or being presented as and providing fun, flexible performance out of the box.

That V6 is a solid engine, but it's no substitute for a V8 right out of the showroom. They're fun for the sort of person that would drop a 350 in an XJS or a 240Z.

It's worse than that. LR now makes zero vehicles that ship with nor can utilize appropriate off road tires without aftermarket mods. To be more precise, there is no tire of suitable load range or sidewall thickness for true off-road use that will fit any current LR product in stock form.

Looks like C&D doesn't like it, either.

Last year, the LR4 was stripped of its 375-hp 5.0-liter V-8 and six-speed automatic transmission; fitted in their stead was a 340-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 and an eight-speed automatic. You’ll note that 340 horsepower is significantly less than 375, and the V-6’s 332 lb-ft of torque is down from the old V-8’s 375 lb-ft. Moving from the spec page into the real world, our test of a 2015 Land Rover LR4 with the new V-6 confirms that in this case, the downsizing effort fails to deliver the equal-power-with-better-fuel-economy downsizing magic.

And to think going from 180HP with the D1, to 215HP with the DII 4.6 was a big deal.

It's still 340HP. That's a lot of HP. Do most people need 340HP? Probably not. It that really a downgrade? I don't really think so, personally. What if Range Rover took away the supercharger option. Would that be a downgrade? Do you really need 500HP?

Don't get me wrong, I'm with you on preference. I would rather have a V8. I would rather have a supercharger. I'd actually be interested in getting even more HP out of my supercharged engine. But I don't think these new motors are a downgrade (unless they turn out to be a pile of shit). They are just the engines available for this model year.

Whats the speculation, though? Only one engine option? That's bullshit. They retooling for a new motor option?
