So, let me get this straight. All we know how to do is bolt stuff on, yet you're telling us all this truck needs is underbody protection and a winch? Sounds like bolt on stuff to me.

Let me get this straight. You didn't read my post about how the LR3 is a good platform and does not need much just like a Glock pistol?

Sorry for being innovative and trying to keep the brand as progressive as possible.

What is innovative here? Steel wheels? Damn, how do you guys have time to sleep?

Still waiting on pictures of your LR3.

I can post a photo of the title with my name on it if you like. Does that count?

I'm still waiting on these "innovative" parts to show up. They over at Steve Young's place getting magical powers installed?

Send me some of your BBQ and Ill tell you how you don't know what you're doing and that the spices you use aren't necessary. You're ruining good meat. The meat was fine straight from the butcher.

Thing is, my meat is selling. I can't cook enough of it. It's flying out the door. Can you say the same about these LR3 parts?

Who do you think is working in the back ground with GAP to get this stuff done?

I don't know, who? Where is it? The LR3 has been here for 9 years now and they're still working on it? Sounds promising.

FYI the over 30mph thing is already done.

Oh yeah? Where is it? Is it on this LR3? Can I buy it at L8? Where can I find out more?

On your list you forgot a few things like manual contour to lock the diffs.

I'm sure there are a lot of ideas I did not mention.

Wrong again, I have said putting springs under an LR3 will will kill its off road abilities.

It will kill the truck as we know it, not just it's off-road abilities. But when the kit is available, I bet you'll have it for sale.

I have always, every single time, put my synthetic line on hand tight. For the last dozen years I've done this. Not only on my trucks but others as well. Never, ever, have I had a line break. And I most certainly have never seen the same line break five (5) times in one day.

And who the hell told you the line gets pinched between the wrapped line and cut itself? That's the funnest thing I've ever heard. It must just be a L8 winch line thing. http://www.masterpull.com/how-to-install-a-synthetic-winch-line/

At the end of the day, an LR3 is almost ten years old, and if the trend of land rover ownership is based upon previous models NOBODY tries to keep these things in mint operational condition, so if somebody wants to put knobby tires on them shouldn't there be someone providing the necessary bolt ons?
If you want to modify an LR3 like Tami's (which is a very capable truck on and off the pavement) and it suits your needs then great. If you want to modify an LR3 to be aggressive on trails and shitty on pavement then great. WHO cares. It's personal preference.

Let's not fool ourselves, the only reason Land Rovers were expensive new is because of the consumer base NOT the quality. D2's are ten years old and they have just as much frame and body rot as a 20 year old D1. The LR3's had to be called back in to fix water intrusion under warranty, then the diffs started failing, compressors fail (typical British ingenuity, put a compressor outside under the vehicle instead of the trunk), epb's fail like it's their job, so on. For the same price you could've had a Tahoe with a Vortec. And it's not even debatable....a Vortec is the most reliable engine out there. But because it's a Chevy and not snobbish enough, even though priced comparably to a rover.........

The only thing I find funny about this thread is, which seems to be a reoccurring theme, is the my way is the only way type nit picking. Too many egos. I remember this this thread years ago on Benz world. Here's a guy who put swampers on his ML, and nobody seemed to pick it apart but instead applauded his efforts.

Mike,
Would you applauded someone for their efforts if they put a Lamborghini body on a Fiero?

No. I would never applaud someone ruining a Pontiac, especially now that Pontiac is no longer in business.

The difference between crazy and eccentric is money. So if a Pontiac guy put a Lambo body on a Fiero, people would say he's crazy and wants to look like he's driving a Lambo. If a wealthy person put a Lambo body on a Fiero, people would say that's unique.

Joking aside I get what you're getting at, but honestly I'm just not that enthusiastic about the brand anymore. So if somebody else wants to bounce it off trees so be it.

'If' I had an LR3, I would put the biggest BFG AT's I could fit on it at stock height, be happy with its stock ability, and maintain it properly to keep it on the road with minimal issues. I would not do much to it all. Like the gold truck I have, put some 32" AT's on it and nothing else. It will go thru a field fine and do 90 mph on the highway fine....that's all it's good for. The green truck is what I have fun in.

If I could do it all over again I would've never gone as far as I did with the green truck and could have bought an already built Sammy then change stuff as I wanted. Trailer it with an X5.

The nice thing about the 163 chassis Benz's is having low range. The early ML's were actually built very stout, their stock road manners are very similar to a D1. But the 164 chassis Benz's are similar to an LR3, the most you should really do to them are bigger all terrains and be happy with what you have.

An LR3 is definitely better out of the box than previous Rovers, but it's the technology they have that make them better. Personally, I used to think it would be cool to put solid axles under an LR3 and just go to town, but lately my enthusiasm is diminishing. My motto is 'capability means nothing without reliability', so in that regard pushing the envelope on an LR3 would be directed more so to relocation of crucial items, air compressor, EPB alternatives, relocation of control modules to water tight areas (impossible on a British vehicle), complete wiring harness's WITHOUT single to multiple splices, etc....but that stuff would be expensive and most people would rather spend that money on quick bolt ons, which is completely understandable.

I would applaud if he could keep those dang dash cupholders from blowing apart!

.

Remember, cup holders, multiple storage cubbies, in car entertainment, etc. is STILL new stuff to German automobile manufacturers! there weren't even upholders in 124 chassis Benz's (that's mid 90's). Remember it's a car not a cafeteria, you should be focusing on driving not eating a quarter pounder with cheese, while texting, and holding a super big diabetes gulp in your crotch.

I drink beer when I drive. I need cup holders.

When I was still drinking, I needed more than cup holders. I found the center cubby (D2) holds five bottles perfectly with an ice pack, and you can fit a pint of vodka in the fuse box under the steering wheel.

It took two rear cargo door windows to learn not to throw the empties into the cargo area.
