I've been on a Jerry Jeff Walker kick tonight. Listened to a bunch of his old stuff and bought some rare stuff on Amazon that I didn't have.

This cover of Guy Clark's "L.A. Freeway" is classic Lost Gonzo Band material. If you've never listened to him before, give this one a shot:

JJW wrote a lot of great songs but he also has a talent for finding the perfect songs to cover. In that spirit, here's Todd Snider covering Jerry Jeff covering Chuck Pyle. Todd pulls of the cosmic cowboy era sound pretty well, I think.

I still love this song. I've missed it since our local alternative station went tits up.

euro-trash girl. ha.

when i was 16, 17 my friends and i used to sit up at an eat-rite diner drinking shitty coffee and smoking expensive cigarettes until 1:00 am. oh, how are under-developed lungs rattled and wheezed. we convinced the guy who took care of the jukebox (yeah, that's right) to keep that song on there, even though no one else played it. i think we bought him a coffee or something.

we usually ended the night by playing that song. for most of us Midwestern kids listening to that song was the closest we were going to get to actually doing the Grand Tour of continental europe.

great story, i know. i don't usually wallow in nostalgia. but there you are.

A little 311 for March 11th, no 311 day marathon concert this year though. I've seen these guys several times, always a good show.

Relating to the cover comments on the previous page, here are The Protomen, covering one of the coolest songs from one of the coolest (and cheesiest) movies of all time:
