eh, that argument works for something like a D5 that’s only a couple years old. LR4s and L322s are up in value bc there are buyers who want “boxy” off-roader SUVs that are still relatively modern. It just so happens that the Toyota (and Lexus) truck market is fucking bonkers so people have found alternatives. Lots of people who are used to late model BMW or Audi ownership have no problem stepping into a 10 year old Rover… which is reliable in comparison.
like it or not, D1s and D2s are collectible. 5-6 years ago you would have gotten slapped in the face for even thinking about putting a 3rd gen 4Runner or XJ Cherokee on Hemmings, but here we are.
it’s a cycle. certain rare cars always are collectible. People who can’t afford them find similar cars because they’re still cool and cheap. More people then realize those are cool too, all the while most people are trashing them bc they are worthless. A few years go by, there are not a lot of nice ones left. Then they demand a price premium.
