50k for a bass boat? Bought a 16ft aluminum boat with motor and trailer last year for $500 and fished all the local lakes.

I was in southern Lake Champlain last week and those fancy bass boats had outriggers/stabilizers/anchors on the back of their boats. Fleck paint or you ain't American.

See them all the time, Champlain gets hit hard by the bass tournaments. The tech on some of those boats is unreal, and so are the cash prizes for those tournaments.

The outboard is usually half the cost of the boat. And 50k is the low end for one of the big boy bass boats.
50mph is nothing for a bass boat. The Bullet boats can top 90 and some of the Allison's will break 100mph.

As a terrestrial sportsman who hasn't been fishing since age 8, can someone please explain to me why a fishing boat needs to be able to travel faster than my Discovery can drive? Does going 100mph help you catch more/bigger fish? Or is the idea that if you can get there faster you can spend more time at your fishing spot?

It's not about going fast, it's about having enough power to move your Yeti.

Cheers,

For tournament fishing when you've got a finite amount of time and need to hit multiple spots an a large lake to be in the money. And then like everything else, the amateur enthusiasts will want to mimic the pro's gear. Even for a competing amateur, they want to play to win so need to be able to move quickly.
