Long time lurker here. I searched all over but could not find the same issues.
I recently inherited (free) a 96 Disco 1 with 173K on the clock. It had a FULLY grenaded transfer case, which I replaced one from a wrecker (not fun without a lift). After finally getting everything back together, I no longer have 3rd or 4th gear. First and second are solid, as is reverse.
When accelarating it will hold second until redline if I do not throttle more than 50%. As soon as I go WOT it will "slip" to redline and re-engage 2nd gear after the tach falls back to 3000 rpms, but never go into 3rd or 4th.
When it "slips" it feels as if you put in the clutch on an MT vehicle. No power to the wheels, but you can hear/see the engine revving up.
At first I thought it might be related to the VSS as the speedo was not working, but i rebuilt that and now have a speedo. No change. Only other issue with the vehicle is P0158 for Bank 2 Sensor 2 o2 sensor.
Last night I changed out the transmission filter and refilled with new ATF. No change
Thanks in advance for you help. Cant wait to hit the trails.
