So many oil threads I like this one. I went from the Rotella to the Mobil One 0w40 my engine seems quieter. Ive only pulled it out of the shop so no comments on gas mileage etc. etc...

Agreed. If you think your oil needs help, use a better oil.

ACEA A3/B3 rated oils will do everything a Rover V8 asks for.

I mean there are 5 pages of information on oil and you cant figure out if you should run synthetic?

yes post less go back and read those 5 pages..
twice
then do a search on "type of oil"

then tell what oil you use, and whether it carries the needed certs. I know what I use and why i use it cause I read THIS THREAD 1st

I think you should to. I dont want to endorse your behavior of posting without searching as you are a chronic offender already

I've been told to run non-synthetic oil in my Rover.....

Some will tell you not to run synthetic in an old engine because it will clean out the gunk and cause problems. I'd say if you have those issues you are already down the road to oiling issues.

Amsoil and others do recommend a flush before switch. AT fluid, high in detergent, can also be added to conventional oil before a switch to synthetic.

Use the correct synthetic oil as highlighted by Chris.

Syntheic doesnt always mean manmade. Its a spec rating, usually using Grade III and IV base oil.

Look for the sheer rating, dont worry about brand or Buzzwords on the bottle.

We want A3 B3 ONLY

A1/B1 For use in gasoline and light duty diesel
engines capable of using low friction, low
viscosity, and low HT/HS shear (2.9 to
3.5cP) oils. A fuel economy specification,
this oil may not be able to be used in all
engines.

A3/B3 Stable, stay in grade oil intended for use
in high performance gasoline and diesel
engines or extended drain intervals.

A3/B4 For use in direct injection diesel engines
where special oils may be required, but
also suitable for some applications described
under A3/B3

A5/B5 Similar to A3/B3 but for engines capable
of using low friction, low viscosity and low
HT/HS oils. May be unsuitable for use in
some engines.
