My local dealer has a bunch in stock, but they are still selling the plastic ones to the independent shops. They’re anticipating JLR not being able to keep the metal pipes in stock. I wish they would do a rear pipe in metal

Guess I should order them now for warmer weather when I do the fix.

LOL....how long did it take for LR to update with metal parts instead of shitty plastic parts? 15 years?

I haven't heard back as to what the actual carnage was. Truck still sitting at the dealership. I incorrectly assumed the truck had CV's. That front axle is an interesting design.

The breakage was in the front left. Looking at the parts list, I can only assume it was either a U-joint or a yoke on either the inner or outer axle.

Truck was not able to be driven home with the parts left in the housing. He was able to get to the trail head and about 3 miles down the road, but the steering was "locking up" and the sound of grinding metal was making him nervous.

That is understandable; I'd have locked the center diff and disconnected the front driveshaft, just to try.

May or may not have worked. But we did discuss it. Since the front wheels do not have hubs that could be unlocked, even removing the front drive-shaft would not stop parts from turning in the axle housing. I'm curious to see what broke.

Took the family camping in my non-Land Rover vehicle this past weekend. Stuck an old-school Disco-Web sticker on the cooler while I was packing the truck in honor of the old days. I still have a few left from the Dweb sticker run years ago, including one of the big daddy stickers.

The Kia comment gave me a chuckle. The 550's look more truck-like than anything LR produces. Everything in their lineup looks perfect for hair dressers and flight attendants. So, right up Gerry McGovern's alley, I suspect.

Say what you will but most of the new GX (specifically Overtrail trim) and Grenadier’s I see around town have become the soccer mom vehicle/handbag of choice over any newer Land Rover

Oh, absolutely the case here, as well.

I'll still likely get one down the road when my LR3's are beyond saving.

Yeah, it's my new Kia Sorento. Still a better truck than the LR4.

LMAO. Your truck cost 4x an LR4 its not the right marque. It is likely a great vehicle but its looks are far from classic. First time I saw one I thought it was hideous, but it grew on me

Cruiser looks slightly better to me but not sure why

Saying a Sorento is better than LR4 is silly.

You loved yor LR4... for a while.

I love to hate LR4 but still nothing close to it. I hope you dont have any problems with the newer car but in 13 years and it starts needing repairs you may hate it too.

Oddly rarely see them and live in a county here demographic are perfect for them. But I never drive by highschools. Tons of Broncos, Tremor, Raptor... have yet to see a Grenadier in my neighborhood but haven't been to the golf course in years.

Seems like the soccer mom vehicle here is the levante. Plenty of D5 and range rovers, but L460 are rare.

Grenadier lot in Co Sprgs is always completely packed with vehicles. Would think they would be empty.
