"Seriously. The part was defective when shipped. In my professional opinion (An opion used twice in court as a expert witness) the failure was there from new, and repeated heat cycles made it worse untill failure."
Chris, just a simple question. Not trying to be a dick. Maybe I missed something. Are you a mechanic, full time? Part time? Are you a court appointed expert for auto related liability claims/suits ?
Having spent half my life in the Auto Repair trade, I have been a Service Writer,Manager, Parts person and of course full time mechanic at 2 Land Rover Dealers.
Right now I am a Technical consultant advising mechanics how to repair cars, and also being a middle man for when something goes south.
I am a ASE Master Truck and Car Tech with L1 Certs.
I guess I'm just a little confused. I take it you do a little side work as a Land Rover Mechanic and you feel that you have been wronged by LR one too many times, so wronged you have decided to sell your Range Rover and purchase a Honda. Was this action taken because LR "wronged" you or DAP "wronged" you?
I'm just sick of the car. Sick of the time, money and heartbreak. Land Rover and I had a great relationship once.... Lately, not so much.
If your beef is with LR then take it up with them, I guess you have some kind of "pull" within the industry. If your beef is with DAP then take it up with them, I guess you may have some kind of professional "pull" with them. It kind of sounds like you don't know WHO your beef is with.
Dont care. As soon as I saw the pump failed, that car was as good as gone.
In previous posts you determined it was an error on LR's side, "Looked very much to me like a manufacturing error." You then admitted to replacing this defective pump with the same kind of possibly defective pump!
Yes, I replaced the part with another. I know what to look for and the new one didnt have the same failure. Should I have not installed anything??? What was the point here?
Then you put the truck on eBAY, a truck built by a manufacturer you know longer have faith in, with a part that may or may not last over 5,000 miles, trying to unload it! Aren't you kind of doing the same thing you accuse DAP of doing. If I buy it off ebay and 5,000 miles from now the oil pump fails, are YOU going to help me out and replace it? Are you going to go to bat for me with Land Rover?
I am not a part supplier for Land Rover. Also, there is NO warranty on my car. THe part had a 12 month warranty. The pumps defect with there durign that time, but didnt show up untill later.
I don't know Steve personally, sounds like he has a "chekered" past. His comment towards your situation was poorly timed and somewhat unprofessional, but don't be so thin skinned. I think you had your mind made up about the Honda before this whole goat-fuck. Shit dude you went from a highly capable SUV to a hardly-capable appliance-with wheels, that's quite a switch!
With each thousand dollars I threw at this car,I always considered punching out.. To have a part fail that coudl have gone much worse on many fronts (Fire, Locked engine) and to be told that I have to buy another, even though it was bad at the start.... Forget it. I have more Rovers in my life then I can count. I can live without my own.
I do sympathize with you. It's a "sucky" situation. But as a pro you of all people would have to admit - warranties have expiration dates for a reason. How long after a warranty expires should a manufacturer and/or distributer be liable?
If the part can be proven to be bad during the warranty time, I would expect someone to be flexible. If it just worn out at 12,001 miles and 12 months one day... Thats different in my eyes.
