Opinions on a good AR15?

(yes yes, I know, the 4 rails... But it would be nice to add a flash light to the underside for hogs at night)

So besides the 4 rails, how does that combo sound? And how complicated is it to put this all together? any speciality tools needed? This will be the first gun I have built myself.

Don't forget the compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. Oh... and a hood ornament from a 1941 Cadillac.

No special tools are needed, except for a punch to stake the stock nut. I use an automatic punch for $1.99 from Horrible Freight. There is a special spanner wrench for the stock nut, but you can improvise.

BTW, you're not "building a rifle" unless you're doing machine work. You are merely assembling it, a task that a blind, drunk monkey can do in 45 minutes with a beer in one hand from a kit that contains a barreled upper.

I guess I'll go ahead and ask this as well: Found a Bushmaster X15e2 (20" barrel AR-15 with collapsible stock) for sale for $700. Comes with extras like ammo and magazines (you know, the important "extras").

Good price? I'm not gonna deck it out or add a pistol grip or blah blah blah. Just going to shoot it a lot. My only use is for plinking and for fun.

If something needs to be hit harder, I suspect the Garand can handle it.

get whatever you want and fuck everyone who tells you otherwise.
if you want to make your ar look like a brownells catalog puked on it go right ahead it makes no difference to me & shouldn't to anyone else.

my ar is simple but heavy, its mostly a range toy but does occasional hog & varmint duty.
eagle lower, dpms low pro-upper, les bear nm bolt & carrier, 18" spr profile barrel, parker hale bi-pod, mk4 3.5x10 mounted in a burris pepr mount.
it shoots anything from 55 grain varmit to 77 grain matchkings very well. i'm going to add a suppressor in the future & eventually i'll get an ar-10 to keep it company

I have a friend that has built a few that are really nice, but his dad has an KAC SR-15-E3
that is sweet. Not really into the AR's but they are fun to shoot.

ended up buying a brand new S&W M&P 15 this afternoon. Gun store near me was running a Christmas special today for $749 so I couldn't really pass on it. Looking forward to taking it out to the range. I'm sure that once I familiarize myself more with the AR-15's, I will assemble my own

Good deal on the M&P; enjoy!

BTW, for others who are looking to assemble from a kit, my two Del-Ton kits showed up yesterday. The first one took 40 minutes to slap together, and the second one took 25. These kits come with fully-assembled and tested uppers, so you only need to drop in the triger parts and stock/buffer.
The price was $827 for the two kits shipped.
Add $7.50 for each magazine
Add $135.00 for each lower receiver.
Total price per rifle: $556! What a coincidence.

Where? The Bullet Trap? I go there sometimes on my lunch break from work.

Cheaper than dirt guns up in McKinney, they were running a sale through the 20th. That place has everything you could want, and the staff is much friendlier than the bullet trap in my opinion. plus all the rifles are out on the walls, so you don't have to wait for a sales person to assist you to handle most of the rifles.

You could dye your hair blue, paint your fingernails black, and wear tank-tops, too. It shouldn't matter to anyone else and no one really cares. But you would still look like a fucking retard.

No coincidence, that just means that both rifles are already zeroed to you... :D

that depends on what a fucking retard looks like to you.
i actually know a few people with blue hair & black nails, but they leave the tank tops for the fat assed rednecks.

some of the shit is actually usefull. a rail with a light is one the best things you can have on your rifle if you deal with critters at night like we do.
