some of the shit is actually usefull. a rail with a light is one the best things you can have on your rifle if you deal with critters at night like we do.

I see a lot of fat ass rednecks with lights such as that. Night vision works better, though.

Admit it, most people put that shit all over their AR so they look like Hawaii Five-0.

night vision does work but a light is still very usefull.
i don't watch hawaii five-o so i'll have to take your work on that.

after shooting another guys rifle with a forward grip i liked it too, i wouldn't put it on my rifle but on a ligher upper i wouldn't have any problems with it.

i still say build what you want and fuck anyone who says otherwise.

EOTechs are sweet as hell, but goddamn they're expensive...

Regarding the quad-rail and bolt-on shit, yes, flashlights can be useful (especially for those of us who do not own night-vision), vertical fore-grips are nice to shoot with, and bipods are convenient. The best way to attach these items is with rails. I'm not a fan of more than one light, or lasers tho... seems silly and redundant. Personally I don't give a crap about looking like the "kewl" kids (or not, as the case may be), I give a crap about what works well and what makes sense.

Dan - did you make that lower from scratch, or did you buy one that was partially machined and then finish it? I may or may not know someone else who did the same, how nice of a milling machine do you need to do that?

I'm planning to buy one of those del-ton kits and assemble a rifle as well, but I'll need to buy a lower first... I know I can legally pick one up in VA, and that's the plan. Any recommendations in NoVA for where to look for a reasonably priced stripped lower? Alternately, I know private-party sales are legal in VA as well, so if anyone round abouts here has an extra lower they're lookin' to sell...

EOTechs are too rich for my blood. I just slapped a cheap BSA green dot on my rifle as I prefer to impress my friends with my iron sights.

I'm in PA, so I can't help you on where to buy, but... For the lower, prices are WAY down right now, so I wouldn't spend more than $100 out-the door for one. I've seen some mail-order lowers going for $59. My local shop has lowers for $85 plus $9 tax and background check fee.

These lowers are all spoken for already. ;)

Drop me a line if that changes before Feb 12th. I'm leaving on the 14th, but I'll be going to the gun show in Dulles on the 12th to buy an M4 lower before I leave. I could just buy one in CA, but the pricetag is WAY higher, just because it's CA, not to mention sales tax...

haha, actually thinking about picking up an M&P 15-22 for plinking in the back yard.

You might want to add a few rounds of these to your arsenal, especially for the back yard:

This was a very practical round to keep close at hand out in the rural camp in RSA. My colleagues made short work of several cobras and black mambas with this ammo. Call me old school, I just used a kayak paddle. Not sure how you would transport ammo over there, I have no idea if it's available locally.
