Need some home brew? Its fresh, tasty, and very strong! Sorry to hear about the paycut. Going thruogh two layoffs in the past 3 years has really sucked. I feel your pain. But--not after a home brew, or 2, or 10. :D

How nice of the muti-millionaire CEO that is driving the company into the ground to give up his HUGE salary for the remainder of the year. Damn, bet they'll have to keep the yacht on the French Riviera in an uncovered slip this fall... oh, the horror.
I bet he keeps his expense accounts and other perks.

Just another way Da Man keeps us down... Best of luck to ya.

Yeah...thats it. Lets blame it on "Da Man". Forget the fact that he is responsible for a fiscal budget that could run a medium-sized country. Don't even consider that he has to answer to a board responsible to sharheolders who are not happy that the company is suffering. Lets blame it ALL on "Da Man" since he who draws the greatest compensation MUST be responsible for our well being... ;)

for the record,
i am not, nor did i ever point the finger at "da man"
nor do i condone the acts of going "postal" or the like.

believe me when i say, that i am gratetful that the "powers that be" are keeping us out of bankruptcy

i offer this thread topic as a warning to all to appreciate what you have when you have it...oh, and like a good boy scout, "be prepared", cuz just when you get comfy, things can go all pear shaped on you ;)

I just thought the going postal sounded good. I really don't think I could go postal at work or school. What Valet goes postal, seriously, it is soo hard to get fired. Hmmmmm, I will just play the ol' postal card later in life I say.

Also, F da man, he does always try to hold my arse down.

Marc,

Having been laid off from a major insurance company last year during a management buyout of my division, I know all too well the pain you are suffering. I ended up moving from Philly to Florida to find work in my field, and taking about a $13,000 cut in salary over the previous job.................. One year later, and I'm almost back to where I was in salary, but the pain is still there.

However, I was grateful to have found work and to find it in as little as 6 weeks because the paychecks from the PA unemployment office sucked ass compared to the ones I was used to. LOL

My best advice to you is to learn to live on the $9,000 less per year, and if you ever get it back from this company, continue to live without it and put that extra money in savings. :)

Good luck to you, and glad to hear you still have the job.

Marc, the beauty of the free market system is that it goes both ways. Late last year, my company started the process of a merger with another company. I was told by my boss that my position might be in jeopardy after the merger. I started looking around over the next few months and landed a job with similar benefits, better territory, and a much better compensation structure.

Of course, it is understandable to get pissed off in the process. It's much healthier to get pissed off for a little while and then use that to motivate you into forming a new game plan. I can't even tell you how much happier I am now since I made the change. My new company environment is so much better. Sometime when things like this happen, it can turn out to be a good thing. :p

Sorry to hear about those cuts Marc. At least you do still have your job.

Times are pretty tough... I know. I work in the textile industry. One of the few left in the U.S. In my plant we had over 500 employees in the mill. Because of how the industry is moving and how much outsourcing is being done there has been nearly a 50% reduction in staff out in our mill. We can't compete with the labor costs of the oversea's companies. We can't buy spools of thread for the price that we can have a whole article of clothing made over there. We are almost forced to make these kinds of decisions to keep our ship floating. If we really wanted to be very profitable, we would close our mills down and outsource it all, and sit back and collect large paychecks. But we're committed to keeping as much made in the U.S. as we can while still being able to produce profit. (Currently we only outsource about 25%.) These cutbacks were made shortly before I came on-board, but the remaining employees are still bitter and worried. This is small town America... Tennessee for that matter. Some of these people have never had another job! It's tough to know that your losing your $8.00 and hour job to someone who's making $0.35 and hour.

Sorry to babble a bit but it's hard to go through this. On the other hand long shoreman are in great need due to the fact that there is so much being produced overseas.

So Marc, if you want to quit wrenching on airplanes & unload ships from the western seaboard... pay starts at $20.00 per hour.

Seriously though, I hope everything works out for you.

I would have to say that 10% isn't that bad at all.. Better then nothing. Just be prepared for them to take even more later. You really have two choices. Take the cut or leave and risk getting an even smaller paycheck.

It sucks, but, compared to how other companies do things I think that you are getting a pretty good deal.. Well, for right now anyways.

Marc - comes to worse, we can always hook you up to open good Rover shop in Russia. Rover is on rise there - lots of fat wallet dudes. And with gas prices expecting to drop a big time (just seen post in newspaper from there), and price of living being bugger all - hey.. :)

Sorry to hear about this cut though..

It is really??? Things sure have changed! Still, nothing like a good 'ol Zaporozjetz, Sergey ;)

Mark - I've just been handed 40 new temps to beef up my staffing for the Holiday Season... No pay increase, feels almost like a paycut :D Off the topic, but Sergey's comment made me think of VAZ, GAZ, and UAZ (acronyms for Russian automakers). Checking... sure enough... they've got the websites now! To brighten up your day, here are some links, very entertaining:
