Which one are you guys running and what do you think about it?

There's two to choose from. http://www.shopatron.com/products/category/Rover/591.0.1.1.15572.17600.35183.0.0

One is 50 state legal and the other is not but I can't see not passing our emmisions test with the one that isn't.

Looking for a possible replacement for a 4.6 powered 1994 RRC with a 229 cam.

I have the cheaper (street legal?) one in my carburated 3.5. Works like a champ! No more melted points.

What's wrong with the one you have???

Needs a rebuild. I ran across these dizzys while looking for parts to rebuild mine; the price isn't bad if I go through dealparts.com.

The shaft on mine has a little play in it and it will most likely need a new vacuum canister too. The adapter attached to the end of the distributor gear also has a lot of play but I don't know if that's normal.

I used the standard model pertronix dizzy and coil in my 94 LWB and found it to be very simple to install and very reliable.

I figured rebuilding mine would cost a lot more than than a new PerTronix unless one could get the parts for cheap or had spares laying around.

Are you guys remote mounting the new ignition amplifier or leaving it on the side of the dizzy? My '94 currently has the amp mounting on the fender.

I plan on calling PerTronix today to gather more info.

After a 50 minute hold time this is what I got from the techline guy at PerTronix:

Part number D175520 is a stock replacement distributor with a stock replacement amp, pick-up, cap & rotor. All replacement parts are interchangeable with LR OE parts. Any coil can be used as long as it a .6 ohm coil.

Part number D175510 is the "performance" non-CARB compliant distributor. The only LR OE parts that are interchangeable is the vacuum can and the cap & rotor. The PerTronix module/amp is located inside the dizzy and is not interchangeable with any stock LR parts. Any 1.5 ohm or greater coil can be used with this distributor.

Although the photos on the PerTronix website are correct it seems that the "emissions codes" descriptions have been swapped on these two parts causing some confusion. The dizzy tech said he would take note of it and pass it on.

If you plan on swapping in the stock replacement unit don't expect anything but a stock replacement. If you swap in the performance dizzy I was told by the tech (more or less) not to expect much from that either. He wouldn't give me any performance gain details.

I think the cost difference between a Lucas branded distributor and the Pertronix would be enough for most of us. List rpice for a new one is listed by one of my vendors as being $992.64, the best I could do for a new distributor-if it was available when I ordered it-would be $795.

I see a potential gain there

The price point is a huge plus!

I am somewhat concerned about the Shopatron site. I sent them numerous e-mails asking for trade pricing and it became clear that they do not speak English as their primary language and apparently do not read what is e-mailed to them as I got non-sensical answers to my questions.

I also talked to the tech about that. It's really weird how it works... It's a third party website that shops for the part, for the buyer's nearest stocking distributor. It is then bought & shipped out from there potentially saving the manufacturer the hassle of dealing with customers. If there are no stocking dealers it is then shipped out from PerTronix.

I had to call PerTronix directly to get my answers. I am also trying to become a "stocking" dealer for the dizzy's.

Mark @ D&D is a stocking distributor. If I were to need one, I'd probably get it from him. I intentionally don't compete with him, Will, Marty, Joel as they do what they do and I do what I do!

for whats its worth - we got the dizzy with their ignitor (the more expensive one) from mark at D&D for our race truck and with the 3.9L and a 230 cam that thing hauled ass. when i have the extra cash i will certainly be getting one for my 4.6 trail classic. I seem to be plagued by mech. advance plates coming loose and taking out pick up points. i cant WAIT to get the pertronix dizzy.... AND the customer service from D&D and petronix is top notch too.

I know what you mean. I just want to give my clients a local choice outside of buying used or OE unit from the LR Dealer. I do local custom work so I usually don't usually don't end up stepping on anybody's toes. I'm also respectful of the other Rover specialist in and out of Colorado and our custom products we provide are pretty different than what most others currently offer.

Cool. Which coil did you end up using?
