Not anytime soon. Just curious. I like the LR3 a lot. You're right about the very limited tire sizes. I found that there are some M/T tire sizes in rim 18 that are 33" and under and less then 12.5" wide. (Can 33" even fit on a LR3?) BFG KM2 32.6" 12" wide. MTR 275/65 r18 32". Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTZ 33"x11.5".

No, nothing larger than a smidgeon under 32" will fit the LR3, and if you live in snow country, you need to factor in width limitations or else you will never get chains over the front wheels between the sidewall and the knuckle of the upper A-arm.

Here is a link for more tire info specific to the LR3:

FYI - Mine is loosely for sale.... not trying hard but if someone serious came along, we'd make a fair deal. 27k miles, no dents, looks very clean.

Jwest,

You have the best looking LR3 I've seen, who cares what everyone else thinks, You're having fun with it and that is what counts. Some people like to go play expedition asshole 30 miles from a major city. Some people just like to have fun. Nice truck.

I think you guys all miss th point here. The Rasta stuff is junk, basically. It's a supper nice fit making it a clean product. But, it serves a minimal purpose. Better than nothing, sure. But still junk.

The Nathan Woods off-rovering rover specialties hack jobs are junk, too. The slider looks totally out of place. You guys like to justify it because it protects and keep keep you off rocks. That's a lame ass excuse but it make your penis feel better. "It offers a nice step for the wife"...another bullshit excuse. They look retarded. But you guys claim not to care because they protect.....

What make your statements and claim bullshit is that you actually DO care. That's the reason you've all got lame ass excuses to make you feel better. You're using a product made with a poor design. How? Lets look.

1) The skid place it a scoop for all kids of goodies. Mud being the biggest pain in the ass. Mud and shell and rock are all going to get caught up on top of this pile of shit. Also, it adds a PILE of weight to the already soft airbags. Combine the skid plate to your new front bumper, winch, gas tank skid, rear bumper and oversize spare tire and the air shocks are going to start going out......watch and see, it's getting close to time for this stuff to start happening. In addition, the air pump is now working harder to float your extra heavy tank down Rt. 66. It's going to burn up, blow lines, or catch on fire.....watch and see with time.

2) You're connecting the body to the frame. Horrible idea. Vibrations are now being transfered through the truck making your new $50k ride sound like a D2. Whats the point in having this nice truck with a nice quite design, then fuck it up by bolting on this POS slider?

3) Accessing the air pump. Self explanatory.

4) Helo skies bolted to the side of a clean design. Besides the fact your laying a 5k+ pound truck onto a 1/4" thick piece of tube and expecting it not to dent, warp, or flex out of shape; you're adding leverage to the whole still area. Look at the cut away pic! What's there to give support to the slider if the truck is cramming the sill proctor into the side of the truck????? The two bolts on the back side of the skid plate???

5) Over all build quality. The things look like an 8th grade shop class welded them up. I'm not saying the welds are going to break, but I have to question the ability of the builders. These things are over $1200.00!!!! That's fucked up in it's self. It's a simple bend, come Lazar cutting, and assembly. TOPS these guys have 400.00 in materials after CNC machine time. Aside from the fact these things are junk, they're ripping people off with the pricing. I'm not here to be the pricing police on Land Rover Sliders, but I WILL call bullshit on a company who does not treat their customers fairly.

A better design is coming at a cost below half of what these clowns charge.

6) They make the air pump sound like a worn out main bearing on a cummings diesel.

RE the sliders. Got the RS option 1 sliders put on today (thanks Dan & Jeff :bigok:) They look great and I'm very pleased. However, the compressor, like Dan says, is now really noisy without the sound dampening cover, annoyingly so.

I called John, he said he's had a few calls about this but he never heard back from folks as to what they did about it. He's going to do some checking and call me back. I'll take a look under to see if I can see the pump hitting against the slider tomorrow as he suggested.

Has anyone else run into this or have ideas?

That was a heavy piece of metal. They look very "factory". Nice.

I know they look cool but aren't 19's on the trail fairly silly compared to the bfg in 18"?

The compressor does rattle nicely. That way you know it still works ;) I'd think a layer of rubber/foam might help however on my disco II, the arb compressor makes a racket too and is not against these plates. ??

Jwest,
I havent been on a real trail since I got those. I rode with a fellow from DC when we went to URE, he had the general mt's. He did fine throughout the trails. I had POS pirellis on and it had rained the day and night before. I was worried about sliding uncontrollably so I didnt drive mine, rode.
Anyways I really think I would have been fine for most of the trails.
The MTR's have the reinforced sidewalls...for what it matters, as the BFG's dont. I dont have any data to compare how the 18 and 19" compare on the trails.
I can only think the difference would be the side wall strength. They both have aggressive lugs. I wouldnt air down quite as much with a low profile tire anyways. My way of thinking(which isnt always right) is that if its good enough for the G4 then why not my truck.
Also the 18" were never an option for me
Those guys could have picked any tire any size to run, but the person(s) chose the 19" MTRs.
I have another ? for you. Since you go to Wa. often do you pull a trailer? Do you prefer the single axle or a dual axle trailer to pull? I think having two it would help from bouncing on the Interstate. I dont know.

I'm not the expert but I think you are mistaken to suggest the goodyear being stronger than the bfg AT ko that appears to have a higher load rating, 10 ply, etc.

I don't tow across the country, that would suck. I've never had any bouncing trouble towing either the single I used to have or my double axle with bike stuff in it to the tracks. I like the blowout protection a double provides.

Im no expert either.. reinforced is just in the name, my only source. I dont think that 19" or 18" matters.. there are too many different tire manuacturers out there to really compare their own rating and capabilities... Goodyear made it easy for me. They are the only ones that made 19". You are right about the load rating, the BFGs are 3305lbs and the GY are 2403lbs... interseting. Guess that measns I cant put my fat ass sister in truck anymore.

What it means is that the bfg is built stronger. Their side walls are reinforced in that it's at least more plys than normal, etc. All the gy's have going is the size/tread. Unfortunately they are stock diameter and provide no extra vehicle clearance off roading.

Again, they look really cool though. They'd be totally awesome on the VW Touareg we had!

I was talking with the Girlie last night, she says I spend too much time on the puter. She asked if I was going around blogging. I said NO I only go on Dweb to post and others to peek around to see whats happening, I further replied to her that I didnt know how to blog... She kindly informed me otherwise. I may be addicted... maybe I should get a job..
AND yes I think my tires do look cool. I have all confidence they will perform most satisfactory for the once or twice a year I go roving..

Also did you have a spacer for those RRS wheel? I have seen too many cheap RR 19" wheels on Ebay and passed them by. I would like to have another set of wheels to run majority of the time. I have eight of the GY Wranglers not including the spare.
