@cosmic. I won't ask you where or how you learned the term banana hammock, but now I really wish that I had a memory eraser.

If you look through the posts we were talking about people USING VIOLENCE against someone that is exercising rights. What you state is different, but maybe you were paraphrasing. Not sure.

:banghead:

Nope, I screwed up here. I read PT's statement just as I repeated it - that the world would be a better place if more people got shot for exercising their rights. When in reality, he was not referring to people exercising their rights, but people reacting violently to another doing so.

Must have been one of those nights. My bad, PT!

Some of you guys define freedom in a curious fashion.
Indeed. But many seem to not know from where our rights come, certainly not the government, much less the military so it's no surprise there are some odd-ball definitions of rights and freedoms.
As for the specific topic of burning the US flag, the only time I've ever even considered the idea of actually doing it was the last time an anti flag burning amendment was before congress. If it had passed I would have seriously considered burning one.
Personally, I believe that our country is not so weak that burning the flag would cause one iota of harm. Sort of like shooting the hull of a battleship with a .22.

These types of discussions always remind me of the sudden pseudo patriotism displayed by so many after 9-11, when I would see flags all over cars and trucks, typically filthy and shredded. I'm just guessing, but I imagine many of those people would state proudly that they would act irrationally if they saw someone burning a flag.

"Endowed by our Creator"?

If we accept that the basis of our Nation was the DOC and COTUS, one MUST accept the divine nature of those right, hence my comments about them being God-Given Constitutionally protected rights.
