Nate says that he some prettywonderful welding certifications and if he does, it certainly does not have one in fabrication. Did he weld those pieces of allthread to a washer on the end of that pipe? I don't understand how they are that crooked if they were welded into anything more than 1/2" thick that had the same id as the od of the allthread. I would not accept that quality from anyone and take him up on a refund since he guaranties his stuff from quality defects. That welded joint looks weak and completely unnessesary if he has a bender.

Bill
Did they put those stickers on upside down?

ya i couldn't quite figure out how he welded that rod in there, i think maybe its a fully threaded bolt and the head is welded into the pipe. it looks like its 2" 5/16 or 3/8 wall so the ID of tube is much larger than bolt thread. one of my guys is grinding out that weld at the joint and doing a new full penetration weld for me. its probably strong the way it came but without knowing what kind of weld prep he did i'm just going to redo it and sleep better at night. im not worried about a refund. i just hope he takes a little more time on the next ones for other people.

I like the rockware trailing arms, what the price difference between RW and TF arms?

I don;t know who nate is but he'll be going out of business soon it seems.

www.bottorf-fabrication.com that's Nate.

The TerraFirma trailing arms are around $250

Terry if your going to have your guy cut that end weld off you might just want to have him replace that whole threaded section while he was in there. If he welded in a bolt as Denny suggested, I would think by the lack of cadmium plating that its a grade five. If it's your run of the mill threaded rod it's normally grade 5 or lower. You may be better off in the long run just having that changed. I still can't believe the total lack of QC on those. They seem boarder line unsafe to my untrained eye.

Holy shit!!!! The only thing worse than those are the "D2x4 wood edition" radius arms I made a while back. Thats right, nothing says quality like some pressure treated pine.

You will be hard pressed to find a better rear link than the rovertym, although I really like the idea behind the x-eng rear link setup they were just too thin for me.

Well here they are, came as promised. But i'm a estimator/project manager for a steel fabrication shop so i do this stuff for a living. I decided to buy arms simply because i didn't want to buy all the parts and measure and make them myself and at Nates price i just decided to buy them. They are heavy duty, not 1/2" wall like he said though, i'm sure they probably fit but the quality i guess is well....homemade . My CWI said the welds would probably fail an inspection so i'm having them ground out and redoing a full penetration weld on them by one of my certified welders for safety sakes. And i don't care for the fully threaded peice that goes into the bushing, one they are crooked as shit and two i just dont see threads being very bushing friendly. I'm not saying they are junk, but if i made them myself they would have been nicer.

Um you gotta be kidding me with that shit... Looks like I'm not the only one that picked up a $90 welder from harbor freight. I'd be embarrassed to sell those, get a refund man...

just trying to help out a local guy but sometimes you just get bit i guess. and he sells them for 190

as far as the rod i'm not replacing it, if there was enough stress to break the rod it would have ripped through the mount long before that. i beat the shit out of it with a sledge trying to get it semi lined up with the other side but didn't want to weaken it any further and it held up pretty good.

It's amazing what a few extra dollars and I mean very few, will get you quality wise. I'm hoping that $190 was shipped at least. I'm just amazed those were sent out like that, I would never have sent out arms that poorly made.

Joel,

The 2x4 radius arms were probably more functional and safer:rofl:

I had a bad feeling about the Bottdorf stuff when I saw the bumper with the toolbox instead of a winch he made for jcb memphis.

I'm not gonna bash Nate as I don't have a dog in the fight, but I will say that when I inquired about having stuff made in the US, none of my local fab shops have been able to even come close to the pricing on the T-F stuff.

I certainly don't have the time to cut the tubing, bend it, weld it, paint it, press the bushings in and tote it to the post office.

I'm sad it's turned out this way for Nate, he's got an uphill battle to make up for the mis-steps. Chrysler, GM and Ford did it, can he?

how good is your line on TF stuff? I tried to get a couple TF things from RN cause I had some gift certificates hanging around from events, but they said they were having a hard time getting TF to fulfill their orders.

It's not T-F, it's the fact that many suppliers in the UK have gone out of business in the last few years. What suppliers there are left, won't start production runs until they have huge orders and are paid in advance.

Doing business with the Asians is a crap shoot as you never know if you'll get your product, if it will be made to spec, or how much you'll be charged for it.

Back orders have become the bane of the aftermarket parts world. My wife's employer has the same problem and they are the manufacturer!

At the end of the year, I had tens of thousands of dollars of parts on backorder with two UK suppliers, I canceled all of those and started over with a clean slate and I already have a sizable backorder list of things like D90 calipers that if I can ever get full pairs, I can sell pretty damned cheap-IF I ever get pairs-LOL. WTF good is a pile of left Defender 90 calipers?

For some reason, I'm receiving valley pan gaskets one at a freaking time! I place orders for 50 and get one-WTF? Thank God I bought a wheelbarrow full of head bolts last year.
