Hello,

How much is the estimate to rebuild a transmission for a D11 2000 120K miles. Apparently, truck shift gear but immobile. I was quoted for 2500 - 2700 to rebuild. Is this quote about right? Thanks.

The price seems right. But what were the symptoms and how can you be sure the trans is bad.
Shifting gears to rear just rev with no movement then on drive it will accelerate. I took the truck @90k to flush the tranny and change the filter kit. The fluid was right now was black.

Drillbit is Marty's username. A search of members should pull his info up.

And the Canada thing was a joke; Marty had an issue with a Canadian customer recently.

A master overhaulkit runs about 400 bucks give or take 50 (wholesale price) some 350.00 for a new torque converter, the going labor rate in the dc metro area for rovers is about 110.00 p/h average.
r&r is about 10hrs... bench work (overhaul) is roughly 6 hrs including cleaning the valve body, plus atf, shop supplies and taxes.
yes youre getting a bargain in my book

I'm not sure if it would work for your app but there was a coil pack D1 in one of the pick a part yards this morning here in socal. That is if you are a DIY kind of guy since you have to pull the gearbox yourself..

From a pole barn on your property ? Really ?
I'm not sure where the work is performed is really an issue, so long as the work perfromed is done correctly. The customer is paying for a service, not for the ambiance. If they want that they can go to the dealer and pay twice as much. But at least they'll get "free" coffee and a putting green.

I was once told that my shop is like that greasy spoon diner where you wouldn't dare touch the underside of the table, but the food is fantastic!

$100/hr. By the time you include R&R, flushing the cooler, realizing universal joints/rotoflex, new filter, ATF, etc, etc, etc, it adds up. But, that's doing it the way I'd do it for my truck and not cutting corners by not replacing the filter, flushing the coolers, etc.

I think it's kinda like taking your L322/4.4 to Jiffy Lube, then bringing it to me and my telling you they stripped the drain plug, broke the oil filter mounting points and didn't see the collapsed crankcase vent lines.

Thanks for all the response. I have a general idea for this job. Ahhhhh!!!! The love and hate relationship of owning a Rover.
