Hi All,
Yesterday when I a started my discoII /02 the "S" and "M" mode green lights on the dash came on flashing along with the red dot next to the "D" selector on transmis. shifter. And the engine did not have anougth power. Drove home this way abt 20 minuts on low speed. Today started my car and the lights flashing same way and acceleration is weak. Anybody knows what could be the problem? I recently had the 30k service done. Thanks in advance

Our 2000 did this a month or so ago. I used my trusty OBDII code reader thingy and cleared the codes and all is well again, in fact i think it runs better now than it had for a LONG time proir to the reset. I'd have to with Mongo though, sounds like a battery, I should really get a new one but...... ;)

shut the truck off and re-start. mine has done it 20 times or so over the past 4 years. I have only replaced the battery once. I think it is a sensor problem. let us know what the dealer says.

Yes, I have had that happen a dozen times or so. It does it on start-up. I shut it off and start it again and it usually goes away. Some times I'll have to restart it a couple of times before the lights don't come back. I figure there must be a bad connection in there somewhere freaking the computer out.

When it happened to me it was a bad battery and battery cable clamp. Battery probably drained because bad cable prevented it from gettign a full charge.

Dealer replaced under warranty alls well now.

Got back from dealer. The damn lights went off before I made to the dealership. They did not find anything wrong with the truck. Told me it may be some sensors, but no major things. fluids and contacts they say are fine. I guess next time I should not be worry that much abt this. Thanks everybody.

I have a truck here in the shop now with ALL the idiot lights on .

I scanned the truck two weeks ago to just clear a engine code and turn on the DRL lights .

The truck is from the US and is now is Canada so the DRL,s need to be turned on .

When I scanned the truck I turned on the light and POW WTF all the lights came one .

I have sorted the three amigos .that was a bad wheel bearing .

Now im down to the service engine. comes up as rough road.

The ACE light came and the truck doesn't even have ace .That is a easy fix with some black spluge. Yes I pulled out the fuse and the relay along with un plugging the ECU .

Now the interesting thing is the M and S lights.

The M and S light are flashing and the led for the shifter is out .

In my experience this usually leads to a XYZ switch.

I installed a new one and STILL the lights wont go out nor do I have the light for the shifter working .

I did install a new battery adjusted the switch and cant get the damn thing to work.

the funny thing is every thing was working before I scanned it with my super scan 2 .

I have changed out the BCU engine ECU reprogramed the key fob .

Im just about ready to burn the truck .

The only thing I can think of at this time that may be causing the problem could be they ecu vin numbers not matching .

Is this possible ?

I do have the ability to change the vin inside the ecu .

There is also one other problem and that with the key fob.it also worked fine until I cleared the codes.

once you insert the key into the ignition and turn on the truck to start it you have to push the unlock button to get he truck to start ,once that done the truck works fine except for the M and S lights.

The owner did do the head gaskets him self before the truck came to me .

I will try and check all the connections today to make sure they are good but at this point I cant seem to sort it our .

Any advise would be great.

I have also done a search and my eyes are crossed from reading so much lol

Thanks

does the truck have the DRl relay box thing that plugs into a plug behind the left headlight?

sounds like something is shorting out or the BCU you put in is bad. I cant recall the vin matching, but I do know that being able to change it is new to me. what scanner are you using?

FWIW i have a mis matched BCU and the only issue I had was intermittent no start that was cured by grounding a certain wire at the right footwell.

I have 3 sets of ECU,s and BCU,s with matching Key fobs .

I have tried all three set Except the tranny ECU .I have never had one go bad .

At this point im at a loss. The owner is going to order up a complete matching set up out of a 04 that's here is a scrap yard.

The scanner im using is a Super Scan 2 .It is all up dated and works fine from what I can tell .I have also used it since on two other trucks and have had no issues.

On the 03/04 model D2,s you can just go in and turn on the DRL,s .

You have to change the market to Canada from the US because DRL,s are not mandatory in the states.

There is no DRL module behind the head light. This IS something we do use here to get trucks through the inspection process if and when they come from the stares .I had to use one on my 95 D1 just to get it through the inspection process.

My suspicion's about this truck are it is possibly a flood victim from some state and the tranny ECU being under the drivers seat might be the cause .

I don't know of it caused these specific issues, but I can say I have seen the super scan fry l322 bmw range rovers ecm's multiple times. That is the only model truck that the shop in question brought is after the fact...

99-02 has the drl relay. I have never turned them on a 03/04.

Totally off topic here, but I was recently in St. John. Neat town. There is a search and rescue D2 that used to park in the hangar next to the Shell Air Centre FBO. Have you seen that around?
