Peter,
Just because the pump runs, when jumpered, doesn't mean he doesn't have other issues.

As mechanics we run into countless issues with multiple issues at the same time. This guy may be in that boat. Being a fucking rover I wouldn't doubt it's a box of disappointment with multiple issues.

Even if you can hear the fuel pump run doesn't mean the pump is good, like you're saying. Pump could be bad, but without either
1) put a proper gauge at the fuel rail (it's not that hard with a 90 degree fitting, unless it's an SAI truck)
2) cut a square out of the carpet, pull the fuel line off, and see if fuel squirts out WHICH will put the fuel priming argument to bed.

If the truck was physically in my reach, I would watch engine speed while cranking then worry about the lack of fuel pressure.

if I didn't see engine speed I would install a genuine crank sensor. If I still didn't see engine speed then I would start pinning wires out. If no issues in the wiring then it must be an ECU issue.

Once I got engine speed and the truck still didn't run I'd move to the fuel issue.

That's way to logical for this guy . With this plan the car would be fixed quickly . This is how you can tell a good tech from a guy who's running out of parts to swap out .

I wish I could be with this clown when he figures out the only time that fuel pump ever runs is when the PCM sees engine speed .

Funny because that's what I'm trying to do. Can't get my hands on a scope until Monday,
Another funny thing, my 2000 disco runs the fuel pump for about a second when I turn the key to position 2.
There must be something wrong with it, since me, 3 other guys on here, the rover manual are inferior to you genius level of intellect.
Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

How do you know the pump runs ? You find someplace creative to stick your thumb ? I've been training a monkey to fix cars , he's doing better than you . He's already got 4 of his ASE certs.

Some of us just know what a fuel pump sounds like. It's not hard to tell if you'd like me to teach you. Maybe then you can also teach your monkey.
It's 100 degrees out when I get off work, I have 4 other cars... I'm not on this thing every second I'm home. If this isn't going fast enough, please, feel free to not post on this thread anymore.
But you will, because arrogance and ignorance have a common trait... The need to come out. So please make another observation which you're sure we need to read, about how much better you are than me. Because you know me so well

Have you taken the shrader valve off to see if maybe that's what is causing you issues?

Take the pump out and see if it is physically messed up. They will run and not pump...

So, It drops the obd scanner when I turn the key to turn over the motor... Then reconnects after the key is back in position 2. I e done it on every other vehicle I have, and it doesn't disconnect. It doesn't give me rpm on anything while running on the starter, but I think it's because they all start pretty quick. Any ideas? If really like to see if I'm getting signal from the cps today

Put the key in position 2 and jump the starter.

The feeble ECU brain may be too busy tweaking the stuff to get the engine started, so it doesn't talk to the outside gizmos as often.
Both of my Discos don't stop talking to OBD-2 tester when they are started, but sort of pause.

Any advice on a fix here?
