I believe you are completly wrong with this comment.
Sicne the common combustable engine works on the simple principle of mixing fuel and oxyegen cold air would be a great advantage. Cold air is more dense per any given volume. Since this is true this would also suggest that cold air is also greatly inriched with more oxygen. More oxygen = more power.
We are talking about a Discovery here aren't we???
Normally I would agtee with you. But with the Disco, your not going to gain a whole lot through the air temp being cooler, unless it is a really hot day. The engine ECU is set up so the engine outputs a certain model. If you change one of the para, eters it will eventually adapt so the engine is meeting the model it was programed with.
You want to re-chgip so the cold air make more HP? Fine, go for a better fuel map while your at it.
When I put the snorkle on, (Safari) there was no SIGNIFICANT change in the preformance. You want to talk about a Sports Car, or Hot Rod, then cold air does help.
But for the Disco, in my experience there is no significant change in power, MPG,
At 65 MPH on up you might start getting a ram air effect, My milage goes up on long drives, but not as much at the same speeds around town on the freeway.
However if it works for you, great!
