Steering wheel bobble

Everytime I hit a bump my steering wheel bobbles left to right sharply. It's not uncontrolable but I want to fix it before it does. I checked the front lugs and all are tight. I'm thinking steering damper. what do you think?

I have the same problem with my 96 TDi and used to have a simlar problem with and old 1972 series 3. I am pretty sure mine need the swivels/ king pins and railko bushes replacing and the preloads setting up.

Check the damper first as its cheaper and easier to replace then start looking for wear in the front axle compnents.

steering damper and then the swivel bearings (top & bottom)

Also check steering box.

D2's don't have swivels.
Also check your radius arm bushings.

No, but they do have ball joints for the steering knuckles. Att 55K they should not be out. I'd look to other steering components. The tie rod ends on the DIIs don't seem as robust as earlier coilers.
