So the Army has decided that it is time for me to move again and in January I'll heading to my new duty station in Independence MO.

So who knows about the area. Where to live and not to live, good school districts (elementary) any off roading, and if you know a good horse riding stable (for my daughter) that would be great info as well.

Thanks in advance:patriot:

Damn dude, wtf is in KS, MO (Army base wise)? Hopefully there are some things to do around that area. Gf is in the Army, so we'll see where she (we) ends up in a few years once it's time for a new set of orders... :patriot:

Fort Leavenworth is nearby, my new unit is out of Independence though. I'm a full timer that takes care of a Reserve unit. So I end up in strange places generally in the middle of nowhere.

My wife is from Kansas and lived in KC for quite awhile.

You have a baseball team (Royals), a football team (Chiefs), a racetrack (NASCAR). She said if you want good ribs/BBQ according to her the place to go to is Arthur Bryant's Ribs - http://www.arthurbryantsbbq.com/ - kind of the hood but you probably won't get mugged.

If you like hunting they have some big ass deer and bird hunting. Kansas has what's called CRP land, which is private land that's let go to nature for the critters and you can go hunting on it (her brother is about an hour outside of Wichita and I've seen the bucks and bird hunted).

As far as where to live and not to live, good school districts my wife says the Kansas side is better and said the Shawnee Mission School District is a good one.

If you're in Kansas, once you're a resident, you can actually walk into a Walmart, buy a gun and walk out with it one second after it's paid for.

College football is huge.

As far as off-roading is concerned I've been around Wichita, Hutchinson, Russel, Lyons and that general area and there ain't much. Every section of land has dirt roads all the way around it but they're mainly flat (San Francisco has steeper hills and more of a reason to use low range). You might get some mud or snow action but that's about it.

The wife mentioned shopping in KC but if you're like me it's of no interest. If you're married perhaps the Mrs. will like it.

You are closer to Colorado, I know they have plenty of stuff to do. It's not a bad drive from KC to Denver.

Hope this helps.

Independence is the center of Zion, so you are set for the second coming.

Thanks for all the info, the wife will probably really enjoy the shopping much to my dismay.

Great bible thumpers and meth heads should be a entertaining combo

SMORR isn't too far from KC. Great trails. I'd meet you there.

Sounds like a plan to me

It makes a difference if, in the 7 days, someone finds some information that makes them say, "You know, this person is a danger to ______ and probably shouldnt own a firearm..."

Not really. They'll just go buy on on the street.

I suppose you believe all the drug laws have stopped illegal drug use, too?

If someone with ill intent is forced into the choice of venturing into, say, north minneapolis with a pocket full of cash to hook up with some random dude whom you know will be carrying, then more power to them I suppose.

Allowing someone with ill intent to pick something up from a walmart in 5 min is socially irresponsible.

Stopped? No.

Curbed? Definitely. Virtually all of the many co-workers Ive had in my life that will imbibe in alcohol but not herb make the choice specifically because of its illegality.

Dude, get off the guns already. Go ride another horse. White clashes with your bullshit.
