I thought Lovin' Lamb was going to school for Show and Tell.
Yeah, Abbi being four was constantly asking "Why can't I take it out of the box?". :ack:

Remember at SCARR the people were slaving on the snorkel while he bullshitted with everyone else and drank a beer. If I had people helping on my truck I'd be right there with them turning a wrench. The dude even posted on DWeeb the proud pics of him having a beer while others worked on his truck. I won't lie, I laughed at them because they were funny and the people working on his truck are complete tools, but I like how you're ready to throw Jerry under the bus when Dan Chapman is a constant trash talker to anyone who is excited about getting out and going off road or meeting new friends at a rally such as when I went to Moab in 2008.
I was under the assumption people would be proud that I was going to take a vehicle to go off roading and I was willing to not let it be a mall cruiser it's whole life. Then I go posting on Dweeb and people start the trash talk.
"Freelanders will overheat, they won't make it on trails, you're an idiot taking a Freelander, get a real truck" stuff like that as opposed to what I would do in a similar situation, "hey congrats on getting into the world of Land Rovers. If you need help there are people on the trail that know what they're doing and can get you through a sticks situation without a scratch."
People like Dan Chapman are what prevents people from joining a club like Texas Rovers or just getting in with a generic group of off road enthusiasts. Think of it this way, people like DC display themselves as elitists who know it all and are a complete BAMF when you have some people out there, be it in a Freelander or a Defender or Range Rover that just want to learn what their vehicle is capable of.
You can imagine how proud I was when the Freelander made it places the bigger trucks needed winched out of. How proud I was when people would stand around to see if the Freelander would make it up an obstacle and the shock on their face when I made it without a problem. The only trouble I had was on my first obstacle and I went too fast. That made me learn very quickly not to do that again.
Trash talkers like Dan Chapman, are one of the reasons I still have the Freelander and invest as much money as I have into it. Also, why I went out and bought an LR2/Freelander 2 especially since I'm 300 miles from the nearest dealership.
One thing everyone should remember, in the club or out, on the trail or highway, online or in person, diplomacy is always a good idea and brings people back wanting more of what they came for.
This is something a douchebag does:

I can't think of an event that we weren't either fixing someones truck or mine and there are always people helping I have never met. Myself and another HLRC/TR member were up in Hot Springs a couple months ago and my rear diff exploded. By that evening I had another rear diff and we had it installed in less than 2 hours. I did know a couple guys from previous SCARRs from the Little Rock crowd but everyone was great. At this years SCARR we had one of our Houston members blow a rear diff first trail out and didn't realize that the guy helping out with the change out was Chris, until I saw the Lucky 8 photos of him in the back seat with Rover Dog. Wish we could have come down to camp one and hung out but couldn't leave the kiddos in the tent asleep.
