Everyone loves to see a rollover, and if you don't you are kindda disapointed at the end of the day (as long as it's not you that rolls)

Enough said... do you guys draw sticks?

I guess, according to you, it's driver error when you run over a dog on the interstate too. Or when you hit the brakes in the snow and your truck slides.

Another "worthy" statement.

Sure, he could have gotten out of his truck

Exactly. But I guess he is pretty clear on the capability of his truck. That or he got the short stick for the weekend.

WTF... I think we need about three more crybabies to tell everyone what is wrong with MAR and the rest of the world. If you weren't there, get over yourself. People post about rollovers and such because it is more interesting than "yea, we all drove up the hill no problem." Yawn... The place is harder than it seems to some, especially after all that rain. In my opinion, if youaren't happy with what you read, don't come next year. You will be one less arrogant "stuck" for me to winch out on my way through. A few minor problems in four days with 800 people, wow, what an awful experience. For those of you who bother to come, we will again be doling out some of the finest coffee every morning. Stop by, we can weep over those too majestic to joint the fun at MAR... :(
As for the rest, I was glad to hang out with you all, and the wife fell in love with the look of the Defender. I may be closer to a 3rd Rover than I thought.

Dude is a MARshal which was explained to us as somone who is there to help out people along the trail who dont know any better I guess. Perhaps this was a "This is what you dont want to do" kinda thing. My gripe changes because there is just so much shit to talk about. And again , its so painfull because its so predictable. If this hole was so freakin bad then why wasnt someone there giving a heads up to people coming along ? Or was this just a blind midnight run ? I dont really care how many people were coming down the trail , you know the bad spots and if you know the vehicles you know which ones are going to have trouble and where. I thought that is what the MARshals were for ? Or perhaps they were there to fill the ruts with the little Darbys to help the other trucks get through ?
Thanks you very much Ron...... All the serious shit I have seen and a truck hasnt gone over YET , I just cannot freaking believe this amount of "Fun" at the MAR... For those giving me shit about my view point on this in this thread. Did you roll your junk too ? If not , why ??? A short simple explanation will do....

I can see you at an event now Ron...

Wheeler on the CB- "What going on up there, why arn't we moving?"
Wheeler #2- "Ron's just got a stick and is checking to see how deep the mud hole is"
Ron- "I don't know guys, the hole is 30" deep, we better turn around and go home, this shit it too tough for me"
Wheeler on the CB- "Damn, I can't wait to get on Dweb and tell everyone some dumb ass was trying to drive on the trail with a truck not equiped for the conditions and make an ass of him. What a sissy"

Ron, you have just convinced, at least to me, you are a web wheeler. I not calling my disco a "rock crawler" but I have done the same trail as my buddy Allen (shown below) several times with out rolling. Allen has 53, duel rockwells, rear steer, etc...Crap Happens... It may be better for everyone that you stick to the fire roads or the Mall parking lot.

The rockwell is designed with a "pinion" that goes through , you can pout a Disck brake on the other end and get simple brakes or an E brake..

I knew how deep- or about how deep- that hole was. I didn't intend to go IN it so whipping out a tape measure would mean nothing. If you need someone to park themselves on every obstacle on a trail as you suggest, then I'm glad you don't come to MAR because we can't afford the manpower necessary to coddle you. Maybe you should drive back and forth on the test track at the dealer and make a salesman stand there the whole time spotting you.
FWIW- we didn't modify ANY trail to make it Freelander friendly. If you knew anything about Freelanders, you'd know that wasn't necessary. They covered the event grounds from start to finish. I can't even count how many times they easily went through places where the 'bigger' trucks were winching and yanking. I know you are threatened by it and that's ok- I don't expect anything else. I know the limits of my truck and I know the limits of my mildly modified Disco- I suggest you park your arse in a truck before you rag on it, but I know you won't.
Funny how Bill Burke (whose opinion on my incident I'd trust more than grumpy Kyle) only said that the only thing I should have done different was stow my gear inside the truck more properly because unexpected things can happen. I discussed what happened with him at length and even he said there really wasn't anything that would have helped other than using a spotter at that point... which is true. I was too close to the side of the hole and it slid in sideways. As I said all along, mistakes happen. It doesn't matter how long someone has been at something or how much training someone has- they are still human and can make a mistake. At least I'm not some ass-hat trying to get insurance to pay for it.

Steve , my travels are well documented on this site and I havnt had any issues. It was people like you that I was reffering to when I said that there should be some direction... Who needed to be coddled ? What were you thining exactly when you made that post ? I like to try and understand the mind set..... So Bill Burke said that about the only way you could have avoided it was using a spotter ? How many others took that route and didnt roll ? :) That Bill sounds like a nice guy......

NOw the part about the insurance we can certainly agree on. I dont even think that "Ass hat" is still around..... And it wasnt jsut insurance , he wanted everyone to pay for it.... Well , everyone but himself.... :)

Hey Steve, you want to follow me in your Freebie at Paragon or Tellico? :D

But, in all seriousness, you have to give Steve props for getting back in his truck and driving it the rest of the weekend. It's one thing to do that in a rail buggy, but your beloved daily driver is another. Of course, I would too, but I hope it's a long ways away. Body damage don't mean crap, I just HATE breaking windows.

Steve and Kyle -

Sh*t happens, for all kinds of reasons - mechanical failure, mother nature, driver error, crosseyed spotter, whatever, but when it does is when a good 'wheeler can take control of the situation, make sure everyones cool, get the truck back to safety rubber side down and finish the trail.

Good job Steve on setting a positive example! You got yourself, your truck and eveyone else on the ride with you back, made sure everything was cool the next day, and carried on with a great weekend!

As a side note - I met the guy who dunked his D-90 off the causeway in '03 while I was on the trail - he said he wouldn't miss the event! The 3 people in the Rangie I helped upright in the same tank trap that caught Steve were smiling and joking the whole time. Best of all after we got the truck back to his camp the owner/driver of the flipped 109, the most serious accident I saw at the event, shook my hand and said 'that was fun!' (the recovery, I assume, and not the actual roll which was just scary). He was on the trail again by mid-afternoon.

Just goes to show, the right attitude gets you a long way!

Kyle, I hope that WHEN you need a cool head in a bad situation you can find one.

Yep D, thats it, you can easily tell how much bench wheeling I do. If your "Buddy" needs that much equipment to get him through the same trail as you...it tells me alot about who you wheel with. It also validates every rediculous remark you have made in this thread.

If it was not driver error, then at least tell me there was a 50 mph gust that blew that thing over or stick with the lottery you guys had. I am not complaining about the event, I am simply pointing out to you how much worse you are making it for everyone else.

I'm off to the Coffee bean now...the parking blocks are just evenly spaced to where I can get the perfect articulation without getting my 22's dirty or having to relocate my washer bottle.
