Eagerly awaiting the release of details. While I've got my RV8 running decently (and not leaking) this would be a hell of a move long term

Does the rest of the drivetrain have the fortitude to handle this engine? Or would this be along the lines of Series owners installing 300TDIs and breaking axles from the additional torque?

No, but you could always put a brick under the stupid pedal :)

If I were going this route. Id go with a Chevy trans, and Atlas transfer case. And either Dana or Pro rock axles.. If you're going to do it.. do it right!

For those with the ability to use their brain for reasoning it would been a non-issue if it is the case.

I don't know when Nick's D2 kit will be finished, but his Defender conversion is tried and true and CA legal. Methinks the D2 conversion will be fully integrated with all the electrics. Not trying to poop on this conversion, but I don't quite get what's extra special good about this conversion in this thread.

Engine swaps are the new LED light bar...

My question is how many have been done and how much is gonna cost? I can't imagine it being done for less than 10 to 12k with a re-built motor.

6 to 8 is reasonable for a rebuilt as long as the core is cheap to start with. Probably more for the swaps to LS or something else more unique.

They are getting harder to find with low miles and salvage yards are increasing the price due to demand...at least for 6.0.

I feel like the 4.8 would be the hot ticket for these swaps. More power than stock, but not so much as to worry about drivetrain parts shredding, LS reliability, and cheeeeep.

This.

It's too bad you have to use the 4l80e to get the rest of the Rover drivetrain to work.. makes it more expensive of a swap.

I don't think you necessarily have to. There's ways to adapt the motor to the Rover drive train. Especially if he's using the factory ECU to run it.

I'm thinking about going to a 4.8 on my D1, but I have a manual so it's a lot easier.
