Why do D90's avoid depreciation?

Because there just aren't many of them here. I'm sure as hell not going to spend that much on anything, let alone an old rover.

Supply and demand. There is a significant demand for those vehicles and a limited supply of them, hence the ones that are available are priced higher than if there were a lot more of them. While customers are willing to pay those higher prices to obtain such rare modes of transportation, the sellers will continue to price them accordingly.

And low mileage ones are getting harder to find even if this isn't one of them. Although after having a 90 and a 110, I'm looking forward to another RR LWB.

I've come to the conclusion that Defenders are the hot, crazy chick of the Rover world. You desperately want one, they look incredible and you just know that they'll perform.

Then you get one and realize that it doesn't give you enough space, it makes a mess and is expensive to keep.

I still want one, though. Just like I wanted that one crazy chick back in '01.:banghead: Sometimes wanting is better than having.

You hit the nail on the head.

Then I remembered the pill/Grey Goose combos and flighty behavior. That took most of the edge off.

That one's over priced as hell because everyone in Texas is richer than shit on oil money, duh.

I used to lust after the D90 until I sat in Chris Snell's a couple weeks ago and my head was firmly jammed in the soft top. 6'5" dudes need not apply.

Seriously. I'm considering removing my front seat and driving my Disco from the back seat. All kinds of headroom in the second row.

I don't understand the desire for them. About the least capable Land Rover produced prior to 2004 with the exception of the Freetard. Not to mention about the least useability as well.

They dont except here in the US, eleswhere in the world they are like any other used car. But there is the "cool factor", which cannot be beat in the looks of a 90, period!. Why else would you buy something that is uncomfortable to drive, gets poor milage, and requires constant repair, leaks oil, engines need rebuilt before they should....

you know why.
at the end of the day a defender is pure status. you cant fit anything in them, they're as comfortable as a bathtub, they rot out faster than a disco, the electrical sucks, etc etc....but it looks cool at the stop light i guess.

Not enough light bar options drives the price up.

They are only expensive in the US because of the limited number sold. 90s and 110s are dirt cheap in the UK. They all seem to devalue to about the 1500-3000 GBP mark along with Discos and RRCS if they are in running MoT passing order regardless of mods, engines, etc. Which is basically what DIs and RRCs sit at in the US. The only reason they are worth loads is the rarity. No other reason. They are no better at getting anything done and are definitely less comfortable.

Gotta agree with everyone else. Its nothing but the cool factor. My uncle had a '97 D90 for a few years before selling it. My anut actually used it as her DD. Cool as hell, but damn that thing was uncomfortable for me (6'3") to drive. The seat needed about 2" or 3" more rearward travel. The seat, pedals, wheel positions reminded me of driving my dad's fork lift.

The seat issue is a 10-minute fix with MUD-UK seat rails.

There's no fix for the lack of cargo space, though. That's what kills me. Packing my truck for a long trip is like solving a tough jigsaw puzzle, and it sucks no matter how you solve it.

Still, I absolutely love my truck. In the last two years, it's spent weeks getting beat up out in the Utah desert and other than the freak broken axle tube incident, it's never let me down. On my most recent trip, I never even opened the bonnet. The Defender is simplicity and that simplicity pays off out in the shit.
