Why Land Rover will not bring back the Defender to USA

Hate to say it, but just purchased a FJ Cruiser- would have loved to have gotten a 2-3 year old Defender instead if LR was selling them over here.

LRflip, they're not for everyone, that's for sure. But I like the look of them. Disco's aren't for everyone either, and a lot of folks don't like the way they look either. I like them both. Not so much the LR3/Disco. 3, LR designers I think made a big mistake and took most of the character out of it. My reason for posting that I'd bought a FJ is just to say I think there is a big marker for these types of vehicles and the Defender would do very well.

Why dont one of you computer nuts start a web page that is a petition that people could sign... than maybe when there are a few hundred or thousand hits... maybe LR will think its worth it...

Instead of wasting time talking about a new Defender, why not buy a used one? They're for sale all over the bloody country. Or, buy a series truck, drop it on a coiler frame and do it up custom like you want it.

I could build an ass-kicking diesel coiler 109 for $50,000, and I wouldn't have to ever see anyone else driving the same car. Which is about the only reason I can image spending $50 large on a freaking car. $50,000 will fund a comfortable year of retirement, and that's better than any car.

When the US mandated airbags, a brand new D90 was almost twice as much as a fully loaded jeep Wrangler. I know, I looked at them at Symes LR in Pasadena and bought a Sahara two weeks later. Now if I had known they were going to stop inporting them and they would INCREASE in price (few automobiles do), I would have bite the bullet and bought the Defender. But from the perspective of someone who wanted an off-road toy and a daily driver, the Jeep was a more logical decision. As someone mentioned, when Jeep went from teh leaf spring YJ to the coil spring TJ, it raised the bar and the two were closer in capability, making the cost difference even more absurd.

LR is late to the party... The TJ is a capable canvas to begin building an off-roader from; relatively inexpensive and aftermarket support is almost limitless. The new JK, especially the 4 door, is being swooped up like pancakes at a fireman's breakfast and you can stick 35's on it with as little as 2.5" of lift. Hummer has the H3, Toyota the new FJ. If LR had brought back the Defender at say a 20% premium over a fully loaded Rubicon 6 or 8 years ago, it would ahve a niche. As it is, only a hand full of die-hards would buy it if introduced now and if the price had a simular 70%+ premium.

My $.02...

Hello? Brain here, what can we do you for?

Uuuuhhh, yeah, Brain? This is the Senses. We've got a delivery coming in....big one....where you want us to put it?

Hmmm. Things are little full here. We've got a "gum chewing" situation going on. Can you drop it off in the Corpus Callosum? I'll figure out where to put it from there.

:D

Dewd, sorry, too much bor-bonn tonight and.....well.....LR is just not in any kind of condition to do.....well.....anything. :(

Why was (and still is) the D90 soooo much more expensive than a loaded jeep? I can see maby a 10K premium but come on! Is it just that LR manufacturing is so inefficient that their costs are much higher?
