Winch Bumpers

I am looking at getting a winch mount bumper. I like the looks of the Rovertym, but not the price. I found one at northwestparts.com that I like, and it is only $599. So far that is the best price I have found. What do you guys run? What would you suggest. I want a slim line bumper with a brush bar, similar to the Rovertym.

Thanks
Chris

I have thought about trying to build my own. My cousin just got into welding a few months ago and built a front and rear bumper for his Tacoma that look pretty sweet. The only problem now is that he is off at school and I don't have a welder or the time.

Check with Outback Offroad there in Chattanooga. The can build one they way you want it . Only problem is they are booked 4 weeks in advance and you will have to leave your truck there. They build the bumper around your truck so the fit is perfect, plus its installed.

They also are a retailer for Safari Guard. That is if youre made of money.

I think in the end the RTE bumper is a great deal. It's one of the best (maybe even the best) bumpers out there.

Unless you want a big brush bar like ARB or TJM.

I like the Rovertym the most, but the one with the full brush bar is $875, and I would also have to pay for shipping, which probably won't be cheap. I could get the Safari Gard bumper from Outback Offroad and not have to pay shipping. What do you guys think?

I got the rovertym full brushbar one and the shipping was only $70 from fed ex freight. I was surprised and it was from VA to CT.

I called Rovertym a minute ago and they said it would probably be around $100 to ship. What do you guys like and dislike about the Rovertym and Safari Gard bumpers? How do they hold up over time with a winch?

I used to have a SG bumper. I rear ended a car carrier trailer when I hit some black ice at very slow speed (5mph)--it hit at the roller fairlead and put a big dent in the bumper.

Don't know if the same would happen to the RT slimline bumper I have now, but it looks to be constructed well (like the SG was), but of thicker steel. It is also fully boxed, where the SG was just channel.

What I don't like about he RT bumper (all their products, actually) is the finish. It is horrible, or at least was a year or so ago when I got my bumper). The finish WILL peel and the steel will rust. The SG finish was infinitely better, much nicer looking, more durable.

If you buy a RT bumper I would suggest you get it as bare steel and have it powdercoated locally.

I just spray a bit of matt black paint where its rusting. Looks fine. And its only where I welded it, not anywhere else, maybe I got lucky I dunno.

Where do you live? Here in IL all metal that does not have a good coating on it turns to rust very quickly.

In any case, I don't think anyone will argue that the finish on SG products is far superior to RT. That's where the superiority ends, however.

The $G is ass ugly and flops around on there like a Fish , but , does indeed have killer finish. The RTE is ass ugly and I havnt heard of any flopping around. The RTE is also cheap as hell so you really shouldnt expect much of a finish on it for that kinda coin. If you are searching for cheap and dont mind the ass ugly part then the RTE is definately the Bumper for you....... (Sorry Steve but it wasnt anything I never told John myself)...
