One good melt down and everyone has a knee jerk reaction????WTF

Get over it already
everytime you check your oil ,which should be at every fill up, check your batteries.
Tactile test.
if its excessively hot something is going on.

if your anal install a main manual mechanical switch in the bat area to disconnect the bats when your not driving for a while.
but these fail at the contacts after a while.

the only way to predict a bat meltdown is to inspect it visualy, tactile test it,
basicly keep a good eye on it.

get over it already
not a fuse in the world will stop a bat melt down only a fireproof box will contain it.

No but a better design and better QC will do much to prevent such things from happening. I will, however, agree wholeheartedly that preventative maintenance is key. That may be because of our backgrounds. I don't like falling out of the sky!

Cheers,

Mike

Idea-------!!!!
Maybe

Go to your local aquarium store and buy a stick on thermometer.
stick it to the top of your battery and have a look now and then.

just May be a good idea.??

I have Stick on Temp tape i use here at work in the a/c toilet garbage cans.
if a high temp was registered it will show on the tape untill a higher temp is registered.

im going to give both the above a try.

im scared but im not trashing my blue tops.

You could even hook up a digital reader to the thermometer and put it inside the cab like any other gauge ?

Down by the big rock
On my first Pig, I ran the twin yellow-top wired in parellel for two years without issue. I had 6 lights, 12K winch, Engel and other crap all drawing power at different times. Often I wondered if I really need two batteries.....? In the new pig, I am staying with one battery....hopefully a good one.
